Do villagers buy things from the stores?

i see them in there but its not like new leaf where u can tell them to buy stuff, which i liked.. or is it?? i just saw someone say that there villager acquired somthing from nooks.. or another villager.. does this happen without our permission? If so, thats really annoying that i feel like i need to buy amiibos for all my villagers because i cant stand when there houses get messed up...

As far as I can tell they just talk about buying what you come across them looking at. None of my single purchase shop items ever disappear unless I buy them so they aren't grabbing those

No they don't but it's fun to buy something they look at (if something you would like in their house). Especially when you buy it in front of them and they respond to you doing that haha.

They used to buy things in the flea market in New Leaf. Since I didn't want to have their houses get messed up either so I would fill all the flea market slots up with my own items and price them so high no villager would buy them. But fortunately, this isn't an issue in NH.

Yeah, they place them in a tiny vase on the floor even if the have a big wide table, or maybe it is just my villagers who cant decorate.

I gifted Chevre a flower right away, and she placed it on the floor, despite having space on a table IIRC. It was kind of annoying, since I had deliberately given it to her to display on a table

And, yah, I have yet to see anyone buy furniture from the store. Which I appreciate- I'd hate for them to buy some of the things I've seen them look over and put it in their homes

I made this mistake also.. its because usually villagers have a specific spot in there house where the first thing will always go i thinkk that could be why......

No, I gifted Fauna a Classic Pitcher as a housewarming gift and it moved around her tables while she was on my island (looked really nice, too!) I think they're just weird with flowers for some reason.

yeah Lobo put his flower on the floor by his bed. I decided it's because he likes the smell and it helps him sleep.

That was the first item- I mailed it to her as a housewarming gift, as I do with an item for each villager as they move in. I THINK it depends on the item itself, not the timing. If you go to the "list of items" here, you can see if an item will be placed on furniture, on the floor, or not at all.
