I've had paths in my town for quite a while now, and I've been sprinting on them.
Is this bad for the grass, or do the paths prevent the grass underneath it to be damaged?
Thanks!
Paths don't prevent grass deterioration at all. They are only patterns after all. If you have been running a long time and remove the paths you will see the dirt now or eventually.
I'm pretty sure in New Leaf that paths DO stop grass deterioration.. I play New Leaf a LOT and the grass underneath never deteriorates.. It only deteriorates around doorways..
This is my own experience, but it may not be the truth
It doesn't prevent grass deterioration. My friend removed his paths recently and there are now dirtroads where his paths used to be. It does however keep the grass deterioration hidden

uhh I've definitely experienced grass deterioration around more than just doorways. It's weird though i've only seen it in isolated spots even though I run over alot of areas that don't look like that. I don't understand how this game works sometimes lol
So far, the snow months make it hard for grass to deteriorate... in fact, it grows back faster. Non snow months when it is grass, it will still deteriorate.
I think this is done for the purpose of snowpeoples and the dung beetle issue that happened in city folk...
But no... paths do nothing when to comes to preventing deterioration.
