Do catalog items count toward your total spent at the nook store?

I was just wondering, does buying items from the in-store catalog count toward the total needed to upgrade the store?

I'm pretty sure it does, since I ordered the entire spooky and jingle series from my catalogue and then saw that Super T&T was being upgraded to T.I.Y. the following day.
