Do any of the villagers trigger you?

No villagers trigger me in the way you're referencing. I'm sorry that some villagers do indeed trigger you and others. It might be best to get rid of Poncho eventually to try to avoid it, but I can't say for certain whether getting a different villager would help since I don't know whether his replacement might just wear the same sunglasses. If you did get rid of him in the future, since you like him, I'd probably try to get his picture and poster to remember him by.

This is in no way comparable, but the only villagers that just kind of annoy me on sight are Canberra and Wart Jr., because they insisted on popping up in different New Leaf towns I made (not even from the void, just bad luck with the RNG) numerous times and neither of their designs are particularly appealing.

I can recognize that Erik is really cute, and I love his NL interior.. but he shares a name with two people who are pretty emotionally charged for me so I could never have him on my island. My friend has him, and I don't like to see him there even in passing 😬

I wouldn't say trigger but there's a villager that sorta springs past memories and it makes me sad. Nothing too intense.

It's Lyman and he was my ex's favorite villager. When I went island hopping in the beginning of the game, I ran into him. It just refreshed some bittersweet memories I had. It was just a, "Oh.." moment and then I moved past it. It is what it is.

Not on NH, but I remember it did happen to me with Rasher, idk, there was something about him that did trigger me, I did feel better when he moved out though. Although I don't dislike him as much compared to before.

Not trigger in the actual sense, but I get super annoyed and disgusted at Quillson. Like, when you think of nails on a chalkboard disgusted. Only because he reminds me of Owen Wilson. He's a movie star, blonde, smug. Also Wilson QUILLSON... not sure if this was intentional or not but ughhhh I hate Owen Wilson and his awful voice 😤

I don't think any villager have triggered something in me. Actually, it's the dialogue than can trigger something.

For me it was Alice and I didn't rly care about her and thought she was alright. But then I got her as a villager for the first 3 plots that your supposed to put down and when she moved in and was walking around she just got me mad, idk why. I feel kinda bad though.

Not really trigger but there are some villagers I definitely want gone at this point and replaced by others.
Since I don't TT it takes forever though.
The last time I did the bubble transfer method and the move-out bubble was stuck on Zucker for 3 days in a row.

There are also some villagers I definitely wouldn't want living on my Island either though I'm way more open in New Horizons than I was in NL.

I will admit that your response upset me, and it took me a bit of time to stop and think through that hurt.

Golliwog is a form of caricature, so it would be common for cartoons to trigger these feelings. This sort of imagery is historically significant. It has often appeared in entertainment or dolls meant for children. This is not an odd place to find it.

My behavior is not racist just because I referenced race. If what I said in any way implied the superiority or inferiority of a group of people or helped perpetuate discrimination against said group, I would want to be called out on that.

I hope that my reply helps you understand my position, even if you do not agree with it. I did not bring this up to cause anyone harm, but rather because I think that working through these issues as a community can be healing.

If I'm not mistaken, any villager with the "fitness" hobby will sometimes wear the sporty shades. To avoid this in the future, you could look up the hobby of a potential villager before moving them in. You can read more about this here if you would like (the shades are not pictured anywhere on the page. Coach is, however- just a warning since previous posts in this thread mentioned finding him distressing).

Jock villagers without the fitness hobby won't wear them. I've had a jock with this hobby and now have one without it, and can confirm that it is entirely hobby-dependent. I'm sorry that this is making Poncho upsetting for you :(

That really helps! Thank you! I found out recently that Dom doesn't wear those shades so he might replace Poncho one day. I'm really sad about letting Poncho leave though :( I wish there was a way to make him stop wearing them. I tried to gift him glasses to replace them but he refuses to wear anything except those shades.. I'll take a look at that link you sent to see who else could potentially replace Poncho. Thanks again!

Poncho was one of my starters and one of my favourite villagers. I really love him. But when he wears his sporty shades, he reminds me of a very bad person.. and it really triggers negative feelings for me. It's almost bad enough that I want to let him go, but I hate that I'm so affected by it..

Do any of the villagers make you feel this way? Maybe I'm just crazy...

Luckily for me, none of the villagers trigger me. However, I would pay A LOT for a way to remove those sporty glasses from the Fitness hobby subtype villagers (which I sadly have four of).
