I was hoping someone could give me some advice. I am on day 18 of my town. On an almost daily basis for multiple hours, I have been trying to utilize the swimming trick to get my villagers to suggest public work projects. I have received 0 requests thus far. I fill my inventory with flowers, I allow enough time to pass out in the sea before return to shore. I receive pings from villagers as anticipated. Just...no public work projects. I get countless requests for greeting changes, catchphrase changes, silly multiple choice questions, hide and seek requests, etc. Have I simply been terribly unlucky or is there something I am missing here? My town is starting to feel a bit stale with nothing new ever being built.

You've got to fill your pockets, as you said, with flowers, tools or bell bags. Then go to a corner of your town and stay there, swimming but still for about 5 minutes. And then just look for a villager to ping you. It's just that and luck, there's no other trick as far as I know. Good luck! :3

I've never gotten them to suggest a PWP with the diving trick. I know it can be done, it just never worked for me. So I stopped, and accepted I'd have to wait for PWP suggestions.
first, always make sure you're on your mayor character, not a side one.
also, i think that if you continuously ping the same villager, you MAY get a pwp request faster. since you've already received and changed greeting & catchphrase, said no to hide-and-seek, and complimented the same villager enough, they may as well give up and request a pwp.

There is no trick.
All it is, is staying hidden from your villagers for five minutes.
You don't need to be in the water.
I got every single PWP I wanted, one after the other.
Firstly, fill your inventory with shells since they won't try to buy those from you.
Have NO bells on you, so they can't try to sell you anything.
Now, avoid the villager(s) you don't want PWP's from, and walk or run past the villager(s) you do want PWP's from.
They should ping you for a PWP.
If they don't, then turn off without saving, and repeat the process. ^_^

im trying to work on getting more pwps!! so ii have a few questions as ive been trying and havent been getting so lucky..
if ii get pinged, and it isnt a pwp request, do ii turn my DS of right away? or do ii keep running around and/or jump back into the water/go into hiding for another 5min?
how many pwps will you get requested in one day? is it possible to get more than 1?
if you dont get pinged for a pwp, do you change the date to try again?

No need to turn off your DS, just keep running around and try again.
You can only receive one pwp request per day from villagers.
You can change the date and try again if you wish, but keep in mind to talk to your villagers to see if anyone is moving if that is a concern.
@lippysue exactlyyyy!!! thats how ii feel.. ii havent yet decided on a path all bc what if ii get a cool pwp and wont have anywhere to put it!! its so annoying! ii wish they would either let you choose on your own, or make the villagers ask more frequently
I love using this trick!
I completely empty my bags (including bells) and swim out for 6 or 7 minutes as far as I can and then villagers ping. Bear in mind they don?t always suggest PWP but it is a good way to get pings from villagers! Try forwarding a few hours if you have no luck or changing the day
