So this morning, I came across this article basically criticizing NH for being boring and childish, and I wanted to get other's opinions as well. Did this kind of thing happen with the other AC games? This really discouraged me and made me feel like NH is not getting enough of a chance if that makes sense. Anyway, I'm interested in what you guys have to say about this
People are allowed to have their opinions. It shouldn't ruin your enjoyment of the game.
Personally I've always loved this series and never saw it as a game for children. To be honest, there are a lot of things that I enjoyed when I was a child, a teen, and now an adult. It's a really good escape from the world.
I had seen that article and just ignored it. It’s a persons opinion and if they think that then that’s okay. Regardless if someone thinks it’s childish and for children my grown up 26 year old self is still going to play not only NH but any other animal crossing games they release as well.
Some people will be impressed with this game, other's are going to not like it. It's how the world is ^_^ I'm the opposite of a critic, I'm usually pretty easy to please, but some people can be a bit more strict with what they expect. So far, I've personally been loving this game. You just gotta accept that not everyone is going to love everything. Keep enjoying the games that bring you the most happiness, regardless of what anyone else feels about that game
Dang, I got randomly recommended that article from Google this morning as well lol
Personally I didn't really think too much about it, mostly because I've already seen a ton of people dissing Animal Crossing for being too 'boring', which seems to be mostly from people that have never played an Animal Crossing game and for some reason think they're going to be able to binge the game and somehow beat it.
It's kind of sad some new people might just see the articles title and end up skipping over the game entirely, but at the same time Animal Crossing has a sort of niche community that will always stick with it
The comparison to stardew valley makes me kinda see why the author didnt like NH as much. They probably were thinking they would be very similar. I dont agree with some of the criticism like the fishing mechanism. I personally didnt like the one in stardew valley, it was hard for me and i installed a mod to make it easier. I find AC fishing method more relaxing but i dont know if it feels too simple for people who prefer other similar games like Stardew Valley.
lots of the games i play are not considered
"real games" by some people, but i dont really care. It shouldnt matter how many people like NH, not every game is for everyone.
I wish the game was rated Teen so little kids can't cry/complain and we would have mean personality back, Resetti and other things that you get in a Teen game and not a pegi 3 (3 years old) game. 3 years old can barely speak much less read to even play AC in the first place.
animal crossing definitely isn't a game for anyone, so don't be disheartened by his opinion. he's entitled to it, regardless of how badly written it was.
Very little of that page loads with my current add-on setup except a banner promoting e-sports below the blurry picture and the headline. I'm going to assume that I missed nothing of value and not bother whitelisting anything.
It read like a hit piece. Especially since he compares it to Stardew Valley (which're extremely different games, whilst being similar in a very small way) it's clearly just to get Animal Crossing fans to comment/share and criticise (and probably get the hardcore Stardew Valley guys to do the same).
People always say Animal Crossing is childish and it "seems boring" because think of it, you go up to someone like me who plays FPSs/RTSs/RPGs on PC and go "Hey, wanna play Animal Crossing" you'll usually get laughed at. It's got a very childish/cutesy asthetic and is ultimately tied to that due to it's age rating. But it's also a timeless classic, a great time-waster and escapism from a lot of things, whether it be the dull lock-down we're currently facing, or the fast-paced time-limit money grabbing dystopia the gaming industry has become. This has always been a series which is glued, nailed and riveted to what it does best and cannot be matched by any other game.
If you let someone elses opinion ruin your enjoyment of a game I'd suggest never playing a single game again, I ALWAYS watch Zero Punctuation's youtubes and there's a few games I personally loved and enjoyed he's slammed to all heck and back. People's opinions won't be your own and you shouldn't discourage yourself from what you find fun, amusing or entertaining just because Mr "Guy #100 who gets paid to put out this stuff makes opposing opinion". The guy ain't relevant to your life so don't let him be!
Also as an ADDITIONAL edit:
Every single game, whether it be a 99/100 rated masterpiece, or a 1/10 disaster (Lookin' at you Anthem) will always have someone who'll write some article pointing out it's "Flaws", why it's "Bad" and slandering it. It's how the world works, what works for a majority won't work for the minority and that's also true with both words switching places. Animal Crossing is getting nothing but positive marks from any source which actually matters and is currently dominating the gaming landscape (Doom fell to the wayside let's all be honest there), clickbait articles like this always emerge because it's easy to get clicks by slandering what's popular since people share it about and go "HEY LOOK AT THIS *insert word here* WHO'S DISSING THE BEST GAME EVAH"
different people have different tastes and that's what makes the world go round. some like one style, others don't, both views are legitimate as all games no matter the genre are a personal experience. i liked stardew valley, except the fishing, i like animal crossing, and i also like FPS games, and my hubby has both games as well as ones i'm not even remotely interested in even though we mostly share the same tastes. you get out of a game what you put into it.
Didn't read the article and in all honesty, I won't.
That being said, as someone who is does write about videogames for a website (even if I've been idle for a month) and is very strict when I talk about games, I'll tell you that using the "it was made for children" card is stupid.
I'm also 33 and started playing videogames with the NES, spent a huge part of my life playing fighting games in the arcades, in a time before the creation of the ESRB.
GTA, Battlefield, Counter Strike, COD, PUBG and Fortnite weren't made for children, but guess what? A ridiculous amount of children play these games (and there's a psychological aspect involving the whole idea of playing a game that "wasn't made for you age demographic"). On the other hand, Animal Crossing was made for players of all ages, not targeting a specific age demographic. Implying that having a cute/cartoonish art direction means a game is made for kids is asinine, as there's lots of cartoonish games that are more mature in themes (not only games; you only need to watch Happy Tree Friends ONCE to understand this).
New Horizons isn't perfect. It does have some technical problems and lack of content compared to previous iterations on the series. But it's also the cool new thing to gratuitously hate just because a lot of people are having a good time with it, and people who can't write a decent article to save their lives will write click-baity articles just to create drama and drive clicks (hence why I'm not even touching that link).
I mean, it is true that the interface is, at times, cumbersome. But it is ultimately one guy's opinion, so I wouldn't feel discouraged about it.
I don't really understand why people think ACNH is a game for 'children'. If anything, isn't it more accurate to say it's like, a game for everyone? Since it doesn't have mature content but it's not exactly like, kid level basic either.
I didn't read the article so I won't say too much but while I don't personally see the games as childish I feel that is the writer's opinion so don't feel discouraged about it!
Animal Crossing to me is a game that can be enjoyed by children, adolescents and adults alike but not everyone will enjoy it, regardless this is not something to be discouraged by and it shouldn't detriment your enjoyment of the game at all
It’s his opinion and tbh I don’t care, and it’s not really a *good* article at that, especially when he said and I legit quote from the article [sic] “I know and respect people who play this stupid baby game”.
Tbh I personally feel like it’s one of those articles that exist solely to hate on anything that becomes mainstream due to how it’s written and everything.
