Have you ever worked super hard on an island, and then invite a friend over who just isn't a fan.

Kinda just dug holes, and made me really sad, stole a few flowers from an animal they didn't like. I worked hard and that disapproval, and how they said that the only thing they liked the most was a certain statue.

It burned. Not exactly a positive reaction, and I'm kinda discouraged to work on it anymore. It's like they didn't even like it.

Anyone who's also discouraged by disapproval?

Honestly the way you describe it, it sounds more like they were being rude. If ever I come to a friend's island and don't vibe with their decoration, I don't think I would go around just digging holes and stealing flowers. I'm sorry you experienced that.

I just go by my own system that if someone doesn't ask for my opinion or criticism on something they made, I'm not in any position to make any negative comments. Especially if it's a friend, the last thing I would want is to hurt them, so if ever they do ask me my opinions I try to word it in a way that doesn't sound like disapproval or disappointment, but more on points to improve. If I were in your shoes, I'd be hurt as well with the way they acted.

At the end of the day, it's your island, not your friend's. If how you decorated it is what makes you happy, then that's what's important! Of course, if you're feeling a bit down you can always take a break and come back any time you feel like it, or try to look for some islands that can inspire you.

i’m sorry this happened to you. i get discouraged by disapproval in every aspect of life but honestly, screw your friend’s opinion. it’s your island and as long as you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. your ‘friend’ doesn’t seem like much of a friend, either; someone who can so easily insult something that you worked hard on shouldn’t be considered a friend; i’m also bothered that they stole some of your flowers and dug around,, unless given permission, nobody should be mucking around or taking your stuff.

constructive criticism is one thing but that’s not what you were given; an opinion without suggestions isn’t an opinion worth considering; your friend’s comments left no room for improvement and were just filled with negativity, which isn’t something you need to worry about. i’m sure your island looks lovely and like i said, as long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters

I don’t usually care to ask others for their opinions on my island, but you can’t please everyone and your friend sounds like a real turd. If my friend(s) ever invited me over to show me something they worked really hard on and are proud of the last thing on my mind would be to go around stealing flowers and messing up their island; that’s just plain rude and disrespectful. if I were you I would have immediately ended the session, they don’t deserve your time so don’t let this one person’s negativity cloud your creativity!

It makes me upset that he/she decided to mess up your island just because the decorations weren't in THEIR taste. I'm sure your island is lovely. Like, I hate tropical-themed islands (lol, figures I'd make a mountain forest as my "island" because of this) but I don't discredit someone's work simply because of the theme. I've seen gorgeous tropical decorations and structures. So, I think you have to focus on the fact you're proud of your island! I'm sure there are plenty of good qualities that others see in it too. <3

If you worked hard on your island and like what you've done then there's no reason to feel discouraged by someone else's opinion. In the end we play this game to be happy so we shouldn't be basing that happiness on what other people think. And it's all subjective anyway. It might sound sappy but if you think your island is awesome then it is awesome! That's how I go about it, I rarely even look at others' designs unless I want inspiration, and I've had a fun time because of it.

Also if they're going to be as rude and thoughtless as they were then I'd have trouble respecting their opinion at all... I mean wow. I already approve of your island more than I do your friend

These comments are all really nice, and I'm feeling a bit better from them.

I haven't been playing animal crossing long, and this was my first real game of it. I played the app for a bit, but not for very long. So I bought this to stay in contact, and play with my friend. I didn't really know what I was getting into

Needless to say I love it, and play it often, because it makes me really happy. I also found the game as an open world, do, and play how you want, which was over whelming with a giant island. But I eventually got some inspiration. I started making small areas, outfits, or things to reference games, or shows I really like. Which is most of my main island, and I'm not even at terriforming yet. But making refrence areas is really fun

So, the island is becoming an expression of myself,

But. I didn't expect to feel so down, and sad by how my friend treated it. It was the last thing I was expecting. Especially stealing flowers, and that was from an animal that came from their island, who I asked to move in when he was leaving

So, then the flowers got taken from his place (I plant flowers by all my animal's houses) Then I was told that the animal told my friend to dig, and mess around. Which upset me, and they didn't stop when I asked. It made me think if they were just messing around, or the animal actually said to do that. Regardless it hurt. After they left I spent awhile running all around to cover up holes.
Also replace the old flowers with new ones..

Like, it might not be their taste, and kinda unorganized in their opinion. But I spent alot of time making areas, and small references. planning, and designs that felt worthless after the visit. It broke me. I wish I knew more people who play it.

I'm glad to have some kind, and encouraging responses. Because I was very close to just dropping my ideas, this cheered me up alot. Thank you all.

I have to say that doesn't sound like a real friend. Perhaps you shouldn't invite them to your island ever again.
If you're happy with how your island is, then that's what really matters. Not the opinion of your uncaring friend.

First and foremost, I'm really sorry your objectively rude friend has you in the dumps right now :/ I understand how discouraging it can feel for someone who you value to discredit you but I wouldn't let what they say keep you down for too long! At the end of the day your island is an expression of yourself, as long as you enjoy it to hell with anyone else's opinion honestly! I hope you don't let what they say keep you down too long, and I hope you continue on with your designs ! Also, I'd remove that friend from your best friends list so they can't dig up stuff again-- if you're comfortable doing so anyway.

Your villagers will never tell anyone remove flowers or pieces of furnitures. Your "friend" was lying to you. For some people, their island is their creative outlet. Your "friend" did the equivalent of scribbling crayon all over a drawing or painting you are really proud of. However the damage isn't permanent. You can grow more flowers and holes will fill up when you restart the game. If they can't understand why your feelings are hurt, I would never invite them over and give them a dream address.

I'm sorry that happened to you. It really can feel the worst when a friend treats you badly. Your island sounds really cool! I side with John Wick, they seem terribly jealous of your hard work. They harassed the lawn of the specific animal you received from them? That's pretty sad.. I'm sorry they hurt you. If you do consider this person your friend, I'd wonder if they're going through an especially hard time right now (or something). I just can't rationalize why someone close to you would treat you this way. Anyways, your island sounds great, and your friend sure is acting like a butt. I hope things work out for you both <3

In case you dont know; You can sleep in a bed inside your house to access the "Dream Suite". It's an online feature that lets you upload your town to the internet. By sharing your Dream Adress (a code that is assigned to your island), people can visit your island. Since it's a dream, nothing they do during the visit affects your actual island.
It's really nice if you want to show off your island or if you want to see what other people did with theirs.

I flew over my island once, on the way back from visiting someone, and I noticed how bare some sections of my island looked from overhead, so I decorated them a bit. Yesterday, I thought they still looked a bit bare, so I planted lots of flowers. Then I looked at all the flowers, dug them up and sold them. Why? I didn't like it !!

Don't be discouraged I love my island because it's mine !! Some people have said great things about it and others have said nothing. If you're happy with your island then you've done right

I'd love to visit because I'm sure you're island is awesome !!

Even if a friend outright asks you what you think of their island and you don't like it, you can say it's not your style and still acknowledge the work they put in. Destroying and taking things is just extremely rude and disrespectful.

I think it's a natural human reaction to get discouraged by disapproval, especially when doing creative activities. However, what's most important is that you're happy with the way your island looks. If you're looking to improve your island, there are plenty of other folks who would engage in productive conversation with you --not trash your island and bully your villagers -- to help you make it better.

Wow, that's a messed up friend if you ask me. I've been over to people's islands who were showing me the parts they worked hard on. What did I do? I sure didn't begin destroying their hard work! Even if I found it a little too crowded for my taste, I found something to compliment that I did like.

everyone has different tastes and there will usually be someone who will disagree with your vision. I’m sure your island looks great!! If you’re happy with your island, you should be proud I’m also the type to get discouraged by disapproval but I try to not let mostly disapproving people dictate my life. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who would find your island to be a nice, beautiful place and commend you on your hard work. You should really reconsider your “friendship” with this person since they’re bringing mostly negativity. True friends will hype you up and be happy with & for you rather than try to tear you down from jealousy or disrespect

I am so sorry this happened to you, and I'm sorry, but that's not a friend. A friend would never disrespect your work so much as to dig holes and pick flowers. I'm sure your island is wonderful and you should be proud of it, as you've put alot of work into it! Also, islands take ALOT of time to develop. I'd love to visit your island sometime! This is no way to treat someone you consider a friend! From the sounds of it if you had gone to their island, you wouldn't have acted like that right? So tell them they shouldn't have acted like that on yours! Let this person know how it hurt you, and if they respond with anything else other than "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings" I would take a break and stop talking to them for a while; Take some time for yourself to reflect on things.

If Animal Crossing makes you happy, don't let other people discourage you from playing! It's a great game, and I've seen many islands - cluttered can be beautiful! I bet your island is gorgeous. Pick your head up and enjoy the space you've created for yourself.
