Hello! ^^
A few days ago, Merengue asked me to bury her time capsule. However I just noticed that the star/mark where I buried it has disappeared! I buried it next to a bench that only Merengue and I use, hidden in the top corner of my town. The only reason I can think of for it disappearing is that I buried it at the very corner of the map. Is this a problem that anyone has heard of before?
I'm hoping that if the game thinks it's disappeared then perhaps Merengue won't ask for me to dig it up, but I'll certainly not bury things there again!

Where I'm standing is where I buried it. At least I didn't bury anything too valuable. :]

Thats how time capsules work . They disappear the day after they're buried, and the dig spot doesnt return until the owner requests it back.

That's exactly what's supposed to happen, actually. the capsules "disappear" in that you can't dig them up until it's time to again.
The mark will reappear on the day Merengue wants the capsule back and then you can dig it up again!

It's supposed to so you don't accidentally dig it back up too early. It won't come out for a while. When you see the spot again, Merengue will want it back.

Hehe well I feel both dumb and relieved! Thank you so much for letting me know! :]
I'm really glad that's just how they work!

you need to make sure you have at least one empty spot in your letter box and the animals will randomly ask you.

Random. An animal will ask you to bury it. If you open it instead of burying it, they will immediately (the next time you talk to them) say they changed their mind and want it back. You'll then have to 'fess up and they'll be sad.

Mollypop, even though I think it doesn't make any difference, the day you see the mark return, you should leave it in the ground and go find Merengue. She'll ask you to dig it up. I think you can dig it up first if you want, but it's safer to let her ask and then dig it up.

My case, I buried, talk to Nibbles, them I dig it back LOL!! And open the capsule! Of coz i cant throw it away so I have no choice but to talk to her and admit I did it...she took back the capsule. but then after week or something she told me to dig it back, I was like...i....stolen it, wasn i? But the X mark did reappeared and i get to dug it out o.o.

jumping in to say i feel the same! my time capsules disappeared all the time and it freaked me out because i thought it was either my game that was broken - or my brain

happy to hear my game's working just how it should and my brain is not going completely off the rails. thanks, everyone <3

Another interesting note about the time capsules: if the villager who requested it buried moves out before asking for it back, you will get a letter from that neighbor saying that they left it and you should go dig it up and keep what is inside. This happened to me when Sparro moved. I had forgotten that I even had a time capsule for him. I always bury my capsules near their houses so I don't forget where I put them.

Thank you, I'll be sure to leave it until she asks. :]
