Dilemma: To reset or not to reset?

Hey guys, I would like your feedback on this.

So my town layout is super ugly. Part of it is due to villagers that have moved, but one major reason is due to me being an idiot a few years back and putting The Roost cafe in what now I have realized is a bad spot. As you know, Roost is a public works project that cannot be taken down once finished. I've been thinking of resetting my town but there are some benefits and drawbacks to this.

Benefits:
1) Get this one opportunity to get my perfect town layout. This is one of the main reasons I want to reset. I can finally start from scratch and have everything perfectly laid out. I can have villagers not move in the middle of my paths and actually have beautiful paths. My camping place can actually be placed in a smart spot.
2) New villagers. I can get a fresh new set of villagers(or even encounter some old villagers). Even if I feel nostalgic and want some of my old villagers, I can always do villager trading.
3) Ways to keep my money and catalog. After the update in 2016(from what I remember), I can keep the catalog and all my money if I decide to reset my town. Either way, I can find people to hold on to my stuff for me if I would like.

Drawbacks:
1) Building upgrades gone. I would have to upgrade to T&T Emporium(my current store and the highest level store) all over again. That will be a pain to upgrade again. I would have to unlock Kick's and that garden store again. I would have to unlock Roost. It's a never ending cycle of things I would have to unlock.
2) Encyclopedia is gone. Even if I still keep my golden tools, I would still have to re catch all my fish and all my bugs. I wanna have my encyclopedia AND my museum filled.

Those are the benefits and drawbacks I can think of off the top of my head now. If you have resetted before or if you have any tips then please post your reply. Thanks to anyone who may have read my long ramble.

hmm... you could always buy a new acnl copy, you know? so you get the best of both worlds. a clean slate to properly place your projects and have good villager move-in spots but still keeping your town progress! but, in my opinion, you should not reset. if I ever get so far in acnl, I tend to not want to erase all my progress.

whatever you choose... good luck! I hope you find an equilibrium!

If you're hesitant to reset, do what i did and buy a second hand copy. Can be pricey as acnl still goes for a lot of cash, but worth it if you want to keep your old town for sentimental reasons. My main town is inactive, but i keep it because the thought of letting is go depresses me. Just do what you think is best, maybe a fresh start could be good!

I wouldn't worry about it right now. The new AC game is coming out next year, but if you really want to start over, just do what everyone else said and buy a second copy. This way you don't have to give up what you already worked on. I have a second copy and I'd say it's worth it. :)

People have already suggested buying a second copy of the game, so I won't discuss that.
If the decision has to be "reset or not" (without a second copy involved), I'd say it sounds that you want to reset. Your only reasons for keeping the town are related purely to progress through the game in unlocking new things; it seems to me that you may not miss your town otherwise. Restarting your town has plenty of benefits to you that outweigh the negative aspects. Also, although upgrading everything may be a hassle, at least it will keep you busy doing it.

Truly, however, the choice is completely up to you. My true advice, I suppose, is to forget about the positives and negatives and just focus on what you want to do. If starting a new town appeals to you and you won't miss your old one terribly, than you've already made up your mind on what you want to do (I don't know if this is actually the case, it's just an example). I think Animal Crossing should be about what makes you happy. If resetting will do that, then the upgrades and encyclopedias won't seem as laborious.

I reset for nearly all the same reasons you did. Roost was in a horrible place, police station in an awkward spot, villagers moved in willy nilly.

So I reset my town. I had my other towns hold my stuff like gold tools, DLC, unorderables, bells, my 3 dreamies, designs ect... My newest town is great. Already I got 2 great animals on a random move in, Julian and Colton, there's space to put the caf? and police station, and my villagers are using my house plots so I have plenty of space to make the town. My museum was already complete and I caught everything, so now I can catch everythin again and really challenge myself.

PLUS if yo reset and regret it, as long as you DON talk to Isabelle once you set your house, you can shut off the power and have your old town back.
