Did the value of NMT go down?

Okay but that isn’t aloud here
Yeah, but there's a couple of problems with that:

1. Prices on other sites affect prices here (to a certain extent). If people sell at 200k / NMT here when there's tons of people who sell for <99k each on, say, Nookazon, the demand for NMT here goes down. So we're affected indirectly by what's happening on other sites.

2. With the volume of trades that occur each day, it's almost certain that duped goods have already made their way into the TBT economy. There's no way to determine whether an NMT was obtained legitimately or duped, short of a seller admitting as such. Yes, duping isn't allowed here, but you'd have to be very naive to assume that no duped goods are being traded on TBT right now. I don't know of any specific cases, obviously, but I don't doubt that duped goods have changed hands at least once on this forum.

Duping isn’t supposed to be talked about like at all, it’s considered very taboo here
I mean discussions about duping are fine, you just can't sell things that are duped.

I'm so confused by the NMT prices tbh. I tried buying 100 for 2mil IGB but no one was interested, but apparently it's double of that thread? Like even if that value is real, no one wants to go by it I guess. Does anyone have more insight on that? I'm not too familiar with the economy of the currencies, I just want to spend my leftover bells on a considerable amount of NMT. What's appropiate according to people who trade them constantly? 🤔

If you give me tbt I’ll sell them to you 😭 I have 15m IGB so I don’t need bells. Pm me if interested I’m trying to get rid of them I literally have 300

NMT : IGB rates have been fairly stable. NMT : TBT rates have been the exact opposite of that.

Well shoot, guess I'll keep my NMT for the time being and rather use Bells to get TBT

Stuff goin' crazy rn

NMT : IGB rates have been fairly stable. NMT : TBT rates have been the exact opposite of that.

Is the rate from the thread posted earlier accurate? "1 NMT = (1 TBT) = 10k IGB"? Because IGB seems basically worthless outside the game.

But yeah, it seems like I need to earn more TBT if I want NMT. With multiplayer and turnips no one really needs any IGB anymore...

Basically, the NMT : TBT rate is really messed up. The NMT : IGB and TBT : IGB ratios have stayed fairly stable over the past few weeks, however. It's difficult to give a conversion because NMTs are largely being sold by people who:
a. have a LOT of NMTs to sell, and
b. are looking to make large amounts of TBT
Because there's an influx of supply, combined with relatively low demand, the NMT : TBT rate has dropped through the floor. The exchange rate from TBT to IGB and from TBT to NMT make sense, but you can't use that to infer the NMT : IGB rate because of the skewed NMT : TBT rate.

(i hope this makes sense, real talk i have no clue if it does)

it seems to gradually be decreasing. you’ll still see people selling a certain amount for a few million IGB, but i’ve also been seeing a lot of cheaper rates lately ;u;

Thank you! Yeah that makes sense, TBT is the most stable currency because nothing affects it, IGB loses its necessity after the first million and as already said NMT are duped now (but also more and more people are getting their dreamies together, so less people are island hopping).

I thought because of the duplication people would be more willing to let go of their NMT, but I can't blame them for waiting it out for now.

I’m feeling the burn of it losing value as well, I have a ton of nmt laying around from trades I’ve been saving. I’ve been selling them for really cheap for tbt, I’d love to get more for them but I have so many I don’t mind too much. I disagree with the low bell value though, I’ve sold them for 200k here super recently, and if you go on Nookazon they’re still worth quite a bit of bells.

Edit: Oh wow, someone is selling nmt for 1 tbt each now. No hate, but at that price it simply isn’t worth trading anymore to me. I remember 10 tbt per being the norm for a long time, then 5 tbt, then like 3 tbt (what I had to sell for to get any business), now 1. I feel like I’m playing the stock market!

Thank you for mentioning Nookazon! I just checked NMT out on their site and it gives me a better feeling for what I can expect when buying.

Wow I had no idea that it went so low now. I haven't been trading a lot lately so it's good to know.

I think the problem is you're trying to do what seems to be the most difficult transaction - of you wanting to pay IGB for NMT. People are trying to off load NMT right now, but they don't want IGB for it. They want TBT. I imagine most of the people who are trying to off load 100+ NMT don't need IGB as much right now. In fact, some of the people I see selling bulk NMT I've also seen selling IGB in the past.

Not an NMT seller, but I agree with you. I wouldn't be willing to sell NMT for that few of TBT. Honestly, I've never understood when people are willing to accept payment of only 1-2 TBT total for (whatever) in a trade. 1-2 TBT is so much faster to earn from legitimate posting. Even the fastest transactions in NH take 5-10 minutes thanks to loading times in-game, coordinating outside of game, etc.

It's fine when you're doing multiple things and the 1-2 TBT per item adds up, but you sometimes see people buying 1 item for 1 TBT and that's the entirety of the trade. Not worth it to me.

If the value has dropped, I might consider buying some for my next villager hunting session...

Right now I’ve been trading my nmt for bells, then the bells for for tbt. A lot more people are interested in bells currently, which is understandable. It’s more time consuming, but I find selling in bulk worth it.

i spent a week of my life earning 2,000 of these things lmao
I'm sure anyone who's seen me complain about it on other threads would find this annoying but I am crushed man. trying my best to buy art with them so they dont completely go to waste
if it's any consolation, i'm in the same spot. i spent ages grinding for stacks of them too back before they could be duped... lmao rip </3
