Desert Island Escape Strategies?

here are some of my strats:
sniff 'em out (dogs and chickens) is a really useful ability. it allows you to see the resources located on every adjacent space, including raft materials! i heard dexterity works similarly but i haven't used it so i'm not sure.
shovels are honestly pretty useless. all they do is dig up pitfalls and trap enemies, but you can have an easier time fighting enemies with the slingshot, which uses the same materials.
i'm great at spinning wheels. the general rule of thumb is if it's divided into halves, stop the wheel when the bad half is on the right side. if thirds, stop when the best result is under the spinner.
i'm in a rush so i can't include everything, but these are my favorite techniques

Honestly I use the same team every time, the team I started with which is Julian, Zucker, and Ch?vre because hey do well together! Also I notice their skills have been increasing the more I play~
I'm currently using Lionel, Nate and Walker. Nate is able to move 4 squares at a time. Lionel and Walker can move 3. Lionel is able to break rocks and form new paths which is great so I never really get stuck. Walker can sniff out things.
The three of them work pretty well. I'm always on the lookout for food as having extra days worth of food at the end translates into more points. I always make the slingshot and fishing rod. Again they seem to be the most helpful in staying alive on the island. I try to always have them step on a new square (marked very lightly by diagonal lines) as that counts towards the percentage of the island explored and again translates to more points.
Some islands are just hard though!

Cats are nice to have on your team.. Then you can catch fish without making the fishing rod first.. My main team is Rover, Celeste and Isabelle o: But I failed my last try.. (Didn't have enough food, and Rover got attacked on his second move.. I lost with the sail right next to me. Hmph.)
I recommend having at least one groupmate move 4 spaces or more. I've lost because I couldn't move enough to get to the sail.
Flight (?) seems like a useful ability!
Dexterity is pretty good, increases your chance of using a tool successfully, and can also reveal items similar to Sniff 'em Out, which is also viable!
I have not experienced all of the abilities yet, but finding them is part of the fun I guess!

I use Annalise, Daisy, and Midge (in that order). Not that I've played many games so far xD Annalise moves 6 in any direction, then Daisy can sniff out items, and Midge can fly over those annoying rocks and water squares to access those areas the other two can't reach.
Daisy's best forte is when you choose your camping ground at night. I choose an area surrounded by question marks so Daisy can find food/ raft materials/ normal materials. You can ignore the adjacent squares that Daisy does, since they would only have pitfall traps and monsters.
The two tools I use the most are the fishing rod and the shovel. The shovel is mainly for Annalise's benefit, since she roams the furthest and finds the most pitfall traps. It stops me from wasting the rest of her turn.
But the real reason I use those three... is because they look so cute exploring together!

So far I've been using Freckles (Duck)/Beau (Deer)/Opal (Elephant) combo. Both duck and deer are soft-footed so they move more spaces and can avoid enemies easily. I like elephants cause they can break rocks without wasting a move, but I'm not sure how much longer that will come in handy once I discover the other maps. I've used wolf a few times, but I generally don't like using him because lone wolves don't pick up tool items like medicine, but he has definitely boosted my percentage of map explored which helped me reach the goal score. I've only gotten the goal score twice though u_u I find this game to be quite hard lol

I think we should all work on a tier list for the different abilities in order of most useful to completely useless.
