I'm pretty sure this was just someone talking smack, but I read once that similarly to the town flag, if you put face paint on a character and then proceed to "get rid of" the design, it will remain on the characters face unedited, thus saving you a custom design slot.
Now I've tried that with my self-made custom eyebrows, but as assumed, as soon as I go to edit them, the face paint updates as well. Does this actually work or was that person wrong? Because I know if you download a custom PRO design, wear it and then delete it, it'll just give you a "to wear the updated design, select it and press wear" message, but you can still walk around in it.
I have yet to download any custom face paints from Able's, as I'd rather make my own and have very specific ideas for each of my characters, but if someone has tried it and it actually works, I might just have to opt for that. I'm REALLY itching for more slots :/
