I think the really extra islands that have waterfalls literally everywhere and super complicated maps are overwhelming visually, and look super tacky. 😬 of course it all comes down to personal preference, and this is just my opinion, be as extravagant as you want. But after watching all those 5-star tour vids I think I finally figured out why I don't like most of 'em. I think the islands that stick to the basics and build from that are the most pleasing
I also really don't like it when people put indoor furniture all over their island, a lot of the time it looks really strange and kind of like a hoarders yard (sorry 🥺 )

Also I miss when AC games had that big element of mischief in them to balance out the cuteness. Now it's ONLY cuteness and it's a lot less charming imo. Honestly I feel like if you're living on an island filled with animals they're going to try and mess with you as much as possible

I agree with OP, all those islands with complicated waterfalls and unnatural-looking terraforming are overrated and look kinda tacky. Like to each their own but I can't even imagine how much of a struggle would be to actually play in those 5-star islands I see on Youtube or Instagram. I agree they are pretty, but there must be a balance between playability and decoration, especially after watching those towns where there is nowhere to collect resources or fruits, dig up fossils, catch bugs, or even freely run. I also think a town should be accessible for the most part and shouldn't have all those weird terraforming towers and waterfalls with the big star fragments furniture which can't be accessed at all. A town must also include spaces and paths to actually be able to walk around. I've visited many dream towns and most of them feel like a maze, as there are just so many fences and decorations blocking you from actually going from one part of the island to the other freely. I very much prefer islands with more natural-looking rivers, ponds and specially, cliffs.

I also don't like when people use indoor spaces outdoors. It makes no sense to have an outdoors library because the books would easily get damaged with the sun and the weather. I think people should stick with actually outdoors furniture when building outdoors and actually creating indoor spaces INSIDE their houses, otherwise it looks lazy and weird.

I think that most of the people who complain about Isabelle's role in ACNH are the new players, because they probably expected the game to be quicker, while it's not. It's a slow-paced game, which might have come to the surprise and utmost disgust to some new players. I agree that maybe the morning announcements could be reformed into something more useful, but in reality, Isabelle's role in ACNL was not much different or surprising.

I miss when villagers used to be mean and their dialogues more complex. When ACNH was out for just a few months and everyone was complaining about how dull and bland the dialogues were, everyone was just like "omg just wait, the more you play and interact with the villagers, the more complex their dialogues will be" which is not true. Villagers with the same personality feel like clones, and I hate how much entertaining the dialogues were back even in New Leaf or City Folk. I sometimes actually used to log in to play NL just to talk to my villagers. I could play for HOURS just talking to them, completing their requests, catching bugs/fish for them, playing mini games with them, visiting their houses/having them visit my own house, or just hearing what they had to say. They felt like actual people, but now whenever I talk to them they're like "I like sunny days!". They feel like objects you have around your town to decorate it, not like people at all as they used to feel like. I know this game was rushed but I really hope this is fixed in future updates as I feel its such an important element of the game that must not be overlooked at.

I went to a dream address where it was the type of island filled to the brim. These kind look really good in photos but it feels like I'm walking through molasses when navigating.

And the wild thing I was using the map but I kept ending up in the same area more than 5 times just based on how they were trying to force the player to walk a certain path. Everytime I walked three spaces, I'd bonk into something: walk, bonk, walk, bonk constantly.

By the time I made it back to Luna, I was lost, scared and starved.

Tbh, I get nervous when I visit similar islands for trades or just visiting because I could just d/c any moment and glitch into the 5th dimension.

Yeah everyone posts pictures with all that flare and it looks nice, but it's not how it really looks. I see everyone always posting their current WIP with all those bells and whistles and you know they're doing that to make it look better than it really is. Not knocking them, I just don't care for all the picture filters.

I also don't care for the islands/rooms that cram so much in that you can't even move or interact with anything. I feel like I am trapped whenever I got to a place like that.

And yeah @Pyoopi Those islands that use the posterstand to make skyscrapers and all look great, but it only looks decent at a certain angle. If you move too close or to the side all those visuals fall apart. It's nice what they managed to create, but it only works for like photo-ops.

Hot take or not, I dunno. If you don't know what you missed out on in the older games, you're not going to think so negatively about NH. But coming from the older games to this barebone game is kind of a let down...

I don't understand people getting angry that others don't like super complex island designs. I don't know if I could make one or not but I have 0 incentive to try because I'm not a fan of how they look. I like a more natural kind of island and so many of the super complex islands look like they're difficult to navigate when you're playing the game.

I do appreciate the amount of work put into them and if they're happy with their islands, that's what truly matters.

Anyway my hot takes:
- NH is a good game. It seems to get a lot of complaints, especially for being different from NL and Pocket Camp. I know why people complain but I like the game as it is and I'll make a final judgement after we've gotten more updates.

- Some people care way too much about what others, including random strangers, think of their islands and villagers. They're not the ones who have to deal with those choices every day, you are!

- The greed in this game (and NL) can get ridiculous, people sometimes have absolutely no chill about it. At the end of the day it's just a game.

I don't like that villagers have more to say to each other than to me. It kind of makes me feel like I'm the odd one out. I also don't think that villager's dialog gets much better with high friendship. At one time, I had all of my villagers' photos except one. The villagers with high friendship didn't have much more to say than the villager that just moved to my island two weeks ago. I want less one-liners and more actual conversations.
I really wish they'd put a nooklink in the airport. Is that so much to ask? Then I wouldn't have to go all the way
back to resident services when I run out of tickets. I really wish you could buy more than one ticket at a time.
It takes longer to get the tickets than it does to island hop.
We need more custom design slots! I share an island with three people, and fifty slots are not enough. I feel sorry for those people who share their island with eight people.
I think one island per switch is a greedy cash grab on Nintendo's part. Next, they will want us all to share one legend of Zelda or pokemon save. I think it's a shame that they won't consider a way to make one island per profile work.

Good for you! As an older person, I would use the hyacinth lamps simply because we have limited choices. Some of the items I‘ve used on my island would not be my first, second or even third choice but here we are with little to nothing to work with!
I customized them yellow, and I have a lot of natural wood in the room, so it blends pretty nicely. I don't know that I'd want a lot of them or in bright colors, though. I wish you could put potted flowers out, but the flower in a vase works in certain areas.

Oh god the greed in the beggining when this game was so inflated with all the hacking and duping was crazy. It was like trading stack of native fruit for 80 NM tickets. It turned me off from the trading community.

As much as I love naturalistic islands, if I see one more cottagecore island I think I'm gonna lose it lol.

The villagers are way too nice, terraforming is a cool addition but feels very user unfriendly and frustrating to use, a lot of the new furniture sets are boring and don't have the same charm as some of the old sets; same with villager and player house exteriors, the hourly music is the worst this series has had, I wish we had more buildings to place (I get it's supposed to be a deserted island or whatever but the option would be nice. I miss the police station, cafe, post office, etc), I want perfect & tropical fruits back, etc etc etc. I love the game and have literally over 1000 hours in it but I feel like it has so much more potential. Fingers crossed future updates can eliminate some of these complaints, and even if not I've enjoyed and will continue to enjoy the game for a very long time.

My least favorite NPC is KK Slider. I hate that he blocks my plaza on Saturday and I wish any other NPC would appear on Saturday. I would rather have Label than KK.

Yeah i think it's cool that KK sets up in the plaza but... the way it's set up is weird. I would prefer if there were fewer chairs so that KK wasn't like RIGHT up against the town service door

I wish we didn’t have to put out so much furniture for 5 stars. I liked my island better when it was mostly empty.
same honestly, had a lil rudimentary and simplistic vibe

  • People claiming that the villager dialogue in older games was any better than it is now is a clear case of nostalgia goggles. The older games suffer from the exact same problem: Due to the longevity of the games, the new dialogue topics are exhausted way before you stop actively playing the game., leading to repetition. It's unrealistic to expect the simple AI the villagers have to keep coming up with new, interesting topics for several months, even years. Actually, I just logged into my Wild World town for the first time since eight years and in the few convos I've had with my villagers, I've got multiple repeats. So really, it's not a new problem.
  • Being bothered with deliveries and petitions everytime I dared to talk to my villagers was actually really annoying. Also: Having to wait another hour to invite them over to your house, just to watch the wander around aimlessly and repeat the same three lines wasn't fun.
  • adding "-core" to an adjective doesn't make the theme any more interesting or creative, especially if half of tumblr/insta had the exact same "idea".

Only people who haven't actually played the games think Nook is a greedy loan shark. He likes money but the dude literally doesn't charge interest even if you never pay off your loans. Nook is the best.

This is honestly one of my biggest gripes. The man donates most of his bells to orphanages for pete's sake.

This. Dialogue has never been the reason to play.

Sherb and Dom have hit a more annoying level of popularity than Raymond. I kind of want them to get the backlash he received, so maybe I'll stop dreaming of islands to see the same... two... lazy and jock picks over and over. I like seeing different characters to see them for the first time ingame through dreams. Sadly, these two picks dominate most dreams to the point I really lack any sort of care about either of them. I see them both in a dream more often than I see Raymond at all.

I'm cool with people liking and wanting them, but I do wish I saw more variety and love for other Lazy and Jock villagers. I however feel they hit that old "Raymond" popularity where everyone wants them and they are everywhere... without the backlash helping tone it back down.

hot takes? since we're doing hot takes i'd like to say that any unnecessary hate towards raymond (and marshal) doesn't make you cooler or edgier on the internet, fyi :)
don't need to hate on a pixel cat and squirrel just because they're more popular.
we are 6 months in now folks, get over it!
