this is so true, like so many things you either get by waiting a whole year or getting it for some super high price online. Like Redd, Celeste, and Gulliver only come so often and like then it takes forever to actually get what you need which is then a recipe that you need more stuff for. I appreciate the concept of DIYs and making it kinda like Minecraft lol, but its also the most frustrating aspect of New Horizons. It definitely wasn't this difficult to obtain things in New Leaf. There are cool things about the new game and many pros but sometimes I miss the classic format!

👏👏👏 Yes, the fact that we have to pay to play online is very frustrating. My husband and I share a switch and he had switch online for Smash, but I didn't realize we needed Switch online so I made my Animal Crossing save on my profile. Therefore If I wanted to play as my character and travel, I needed to buy switch online. I wish we could just pay for it for our switch at least rather than profiles.
Yeah, the way they handled this was odd. My partner and I had separate Nintendo accounts from having separate 3DS-es, and (for one reason or another) ended up attaching the different accounts to our different Switch profiles. So now we have to pay more money to both play online? For the same console, we can really only use online one at a time? I can't possibly think of a way to abuse this either.

Yeah it's annoying. I still don't have peaches or cherries. I only got lucky when I did island hopping on special islands. But you can only get so many that way and the others have to be obtained online by trading with someone else.

This is the very definition of pay to win. I miss being able to play the game and getting stuff by myself. Not knocking anyone who doesn't do it that way. I just like the challenge. But it's not even possible.
I'm glad someone said it, it really does feel like a pay-to-win mobile game. But for some reason a lot of people don't think of it that way and sometimes snap back at you for your opinion when they themselves were worried about the game having microtransactions. (Looking at you Reddit). It didn't happen to me but I've seen some threads on there with this topic that were downvoted to Hades.

Buying a family plan for the switch cost less than 2 individual memberships. You save $5. With the family plan($34.99 US) you get 8 online memberships that you can use on one switch or share it with another switch owner. I have extra profiles on my switch for ACNH and it's saved a lot of money.

My brother wanted to be able to make log stakes, but he couldn't. I had them from very early on because it was required for me to have that DIY. My brother obtained the log stakes DIY recently.

I have the membership for 2 Switch consoles. Early on I visited other players island but stopped. I prefer to collect things on my own in AC games. Extra players help with getting new items, colors and DIY recipes. An extra player found the missing DIY cutting board and pitfall seed.
Bonus for those that play on their own you don't get stuck with other players voids. In this game islands that are full get other players voids. If you don't find a villager you can get stuck with their villagers. If I knew this I would have played alone until I had a full island.

Wow I didn't know that! Thanks so much! What we ended up doing it cancelling his and pay for mine. Although he was thinking about getting back into Smash and was not willing to pay for two memberships. Since he has all the extra characters on his but mine doesn't.
Anyways, thanks so much for sharing!

I don't like it either. I bought the switch specifically for this game to begin with(I bought a bundle that included an extra controller and a travel case). And I always buy the guide(though they've managed to make that almost worthless) those plus the actual game puts me over $400 already. No the subscription isn't a lot but it's the principle of it. And I don't like that after all that money we still don't have a full game, we are getting it little bits at a time. If people like to jump ahead to the holidays/events so what? Let them. It doesn't hurt you nintendo. When I bought the game I didn't know about the online subscription either(we already paid for the content when we bought the game). I didn't know you couldn't get all the fruit from mystery islands either. Luckily I have an online friend from back in nl and we still help each other. This reminds of a game called the sims. It was created by a guy named will wright and it was great. But after the sims 2 he was no longer involved and it went down hill fast(he cared about the game and the fans EA only cares about the money).

You are not at any disadvantage by not being able to craft the item. You don't need it progress, and it does not make you any better than other people for having it. It is therefore not pay-to-win. You will be able to craft everything on your own eventually. I've had villagers gift me foreign fruit that was not my mystery island tour fruit before (they gave me a cherry when my native is pear and mystery island is peach).

This is not pay-to-win. Pay-to-win means that if you don't pay, you will be at a severe disadvantage. ACNH is not competitive.

I do get what you mean, it's true that eventually we have a chance to get everything, I guess what people are talking about is that in some cases there's such a low chance to get the specific thing you want (especially with furniture colours) via other means that it's possible you might not have them even after years even though you'd really like them for your house/island. It wasn't like this in New Leaf so I think that's what people are upset about.

Edit: I forgot about QR codes, unfortunately that's something offline players can't have this time around.

It’s sad you can’t get all fruit without being online. They should just be rare on mystery islands.
I wasn’t happy when I figured out I needed an online subscription but eventually got over it and got one. What made me kinda mad was not knowing you needed a family plan to be able to go online with both my main and second character. I am the only person that plays my lite so it doesn’t make sense to pay more just so my other character can go online. I figured it would have been per switch not profile.

Except people who don't or can't pay for online are locked out of some basic game features. If they can gift you fruit that is different, but honestly all the times I've helped and talked to my villagers they have never given me anything worth while.

I just remembered another thing which was back when I played my 3DS I had WIFI that it just wouldn't connect to for whatever reason. So it's not just that people refuse to pay or don't want to trade, some people just can't connect to online. Actually it would have been tragic if I still had that shoddy internet now since the game depends on downloads lol.

You pay for online for everything now. Sony has PS+. Xbox has Xbox Live. It's sadly the way things are now. You can still find a local friend who has different fruit and travel to their town. I'm sure you can find someone if you look hard enough. You're technically not locked out of anything with that knowledge in mind.

I'm sorry if you can't pay for online, but you need to pay for online for EVERY Switch game that has online. It's the way it is, and that's not changing any time soon. If $20/year is really too much for you, you can try finding 7 friends and split up a family plan. I know a few people who have done that. Then you're paying less than $4.40/year.

Yeah this is another reason I really dislike this system. It ruins the games chance of being future-proof. Look at what happened to Wild World, you need to have some people visit in order to upgrade your shop, and they cut wifi services for Wild World years ago. There's still some independent way to get on a wifi server, but it's not official and it can be quite hard to get on. And who knows how long that will be around. If I bought a physical cartridge, yet still have to download big updates, what even is the point? Call me old fashioned, but I miss when you bought a game and that was that, you had everything you wanted right there, online was just a nice bonus.
Yeah I bought a physical copy then wondered what's actually the point haha. At least I can display the box?

They want you to pay online really badly. It really sucks cause it feels like the online subscription is forced when it should be optional. There should be other ways to obtain different fruit without having to pay online subscription. I really started to notice them pushing the “play with other people!!” agenda down our throats. It has become more clear than ever now. Kinda greedy of them.

I never thought about all the fruit diys that people would never be able to make or they didn't have online or knew anyone in real life to trade with. At least there is the free one week trial.

But they should really have all the fruits appear on mystery islands. Like a 1% chance like shark or scorpion Island
