I'm very new to the bell tree forums so I'm sorry if this was posted before. I've seen lots of towns that look really pretty with paths and everything and I'm honestly really lost with all of that. I've had the game since September, I believe, and my town has developed quite a bit but I've never decorated it. I'd really like to and I was wondering if some of you could give me some tips on where to start? I don't know if it'd be worth resetting my town completely and losing all of my progress, though... It's sort of just something I want to do as a bonus to my town, if that makes sense. I've never even made a path before.

I'm sure this ~guide~ will help you out (:

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Make sure you have all or most of your dramies before you start landscaping, so that you wont have to plot reset

Hello! Well my tip would be to put QR code patterns down to make paths. In Able Sister's store, either after so many buys or talking to the sister sewing, you get a QR machine where you can make QR codes or even find QR codes on the Internet to use. People make codes all the time and you can find so many! I hope this helps >.<

if you're looking for paths, sites such as bidoofcrossing.tumblr.com are great places to start! bidoof has a ton of path designs that you can use using the QR code. i'm assuming that you've unlocked the sewing machine from sable? if not, just talk to her ten times and then you'll unlock the machine where you can scan qr codes to use as your own. i really like this site : http://0e0.boo.jp/sb.cgi?pid=1 , the path designs are super nice! in order to have more room for paths (you need corners, sides, inside corners, etc), you can create a new character for that purpose. after you make paths, you can start making things such as flower beds where corners and squares are formed from the paths, or putting public works projects in those empty spaces. honestly i think that after you make paths you can start outlining what your town will look like, at least that's what i'm currently doing. i hope this helps!

Cuddle, thank you very much! I bookmarked that!

Karminny, I'll keep that in mind.

ErinVille, thanks! I already have the QR machine, so that should be easy.

Cheezyfries, thanks a lot! That's really helpful!

Oftentimes people suggest chopping down all the trees. You don't have to do this, but some people like this so you get a better idea of what you have to work with. Also having your dreamies and big structures in place so you can decorate around them is good. Regarding paths, a good way to start is to connect all the important places together like the town hall, train station, retail. You can find good paths here in the Able Sisters section of the board, tumblr, pinterest, etc. Start with one tile paths as you figure out where the path should lead, and then you can widen it later. A path of at least two tiles wide is best for running. Also, I personally like to have the path run as straight as possible without too many zigzags or diagonals. I like having the wide main path, and then a skinny offshoot path leading to villager houses and the cafe. Some people even like to make natural paths rather than lay tiles down, but I'll leave it to others to provide tips for that.

There are lots of ways to fill in the empty space in the town. This can include lining the paths with flowers, bamboo, bushes, trees, shells, and/or special stumps. Grouping fruit trees into orchards looks good too. Decorating around villager houses is fun too, like planting flowers that match the exterior of their houses.
