This is mostly for curiosity.

One of my villagers has some missing furnitures from their default homes, and I really would like them to have this item back in their home. I'm wondering if there's a way to convince them to put back furnitures I mail them or gift them in the correct spots. For example, a villager that has a Stereo as their default furniture is missing, so all that is left is an empty space. If I mail them the exact Stereo, would they put it in the empty spot, or would they replace it with another furniture or simply not add it to their home?
And also if there's any other way to convince them to adding furnitures I give them

I think it's random, I think that sometimes they replace stuff, and sometimes they put it in a new spot and keep the older stuff. For example, Pekoe has a weird screen that she put up in the spot where her exotic table is supposed to be. I sent her an exotic table and she put it in a totally different spot and left the screen. :-/ But other times I've had them put their stuff back in the same spot.

In my experience if they are missing a big spot in their home and the furniture fits the spot, they will most likely put it in that space.

It's random. I've tried sending villagers back their furniture, and they almost always put it in a stupid spot. They also like to sell their stuff at Re-Tail -- Ankha recently sold one of her pyramids, which made me really sad. In my experience, villagers like turning their houses into complete crapholes, so I just let them, lol.

I redecorate my villagers homes. It's somewhat random. When you send them stuff, if there's an empty space of the size of what you've sent them they might put it there. They may also swap something else in their home that has the same size for what you've sent them, or even not display it at all.

An easy way to keep them from reselling it is by putting cheap stuff in Re-Tail (like fruit) all priced at 999,999. They won't be able to buy or sell anything that way.

I've had good results sending my villagers things in the mail or using that prompt they give you sometimes to replace specific items. However, if you're sending them things in the mail, they can place them weirdly. It's worth a try, since you can always spam them with stuff until it looks the way you want it to and buy things from them they invite you over.

Give them the furniture you want to give them when they ask that they need furniture. I don't know, haven't tested it out yet, but it could work.

random replacings. it's kind of frustrating, eheh.

i do what laser beams suggested with stocking retail full up with things like flowers or non-furnishables so that the villagers don't put up their items.

my best bet with them replacing things is giving them an item when they request 'i want to replace x with something else, can you halp me?'

also buying an item i want to replace from them when they invite me over, then mailing something later. sometimes if it's the same size, they'll replace it.

overall this cannot be helped. other villaers will often gift items that they tend to put in their homes, or randomly i'll find a shirt in their house (how did that get there. . . .)

Alright, thanks for all the suggestions guys. Hopfully I can get some stuff back into my villagers homes, but if they keep on re-replacing them with silly things like pink tee's when they're a boy '____' then I guess I can't really stop them. Thank goodness they don't place PWP, that would be hectic!

Huh... there's nothing weird or silly about pink tees for boys, male player characters aren't stopped from wearing pink t-shirts so it's not as though the characters can't wear them.

And yes, you can stop them from replacing furniture with clothes, unless you're sending them clothes in the mail. Even if they do that, it's easy to fix.

I was kidding about the pink thing x3 I just find it weird for a Pirate mouse to have a Pink tee sitting next to a cannon.
