Does anyone else have a spot where trees or bushes just won't grow? For no good reason? It's in a line of bushes and the bush I planted there died. Okay, maybe my line was too long, I'll interject a tree in that spot instead. Well, first, I barely had a series of ten bushes, so it's not too long. I plant an orange there. Next day? Dead. Right, well it is by the plaza and I have a path running above it, maybe there's something under my path... kicked up my path. Three diggable spots. Bush on either side. Three diggable spots beneath it. Grass is nice and green. Why on earth is nothing growing in this one spot? It's the center 9 available dirt spots, with plants growing on either side, not exceeding the number of shrubs in a row.

What's going on with this? Would fertilizer help or is this just some random dead spot?

Not sure exactly what you meant by "bush/plant on either side", but if you mean directly touching on either side, like
X_X and you want to plant a bush in the space between the two others, I've heard that it won't grow. But if you plant one on the end of a row like XX_, then it will grow.

Also with trees there's that thing where if it's got trees growing on all sides, the sapling will die...

However I have also heard of people mentioning 'dead spots'. Maybe they do exist.

Oooooooh dur. Of course. I know you can plant bushes by trees but I forgot that it doesn't work the opposite way around.

It looks like this (X bush, _ dead space):

XXXXXXX_XX_|house|
X

The dead space by the house I get. No bushes next to houses or PWP's. It's the dead space after the 8 in a row before the 2 in a row I don't get. I did plant two bushes side by side, but I've done that before and both grew?

How I originally planted.

What grew. :/

Ive had these 4 specific squares where cedars died 3 times in a row for some reason (Which started driving me INSANE because there are almost not trees planted around that area.) I decided to see what would happen if I planted fruit trees instead and they all grew perfectly for some reason! (Ill just keep them there since the fruit colors kinda fit the PWPs I wanted to put around there) but it makes me really mad that I had to waste so many cedars D:

Ive also had moments in which planting bushes in a certain order makes them die, then I plant them in a diferent order and they grow? I really wish gardening rules where more specific and saplings didnt just die at random.

I've had spots where bamboo wont grow in my bamboo forest. I assumed they were "dead spots" as apparently towns have spots where nothing will grow (from what I've heard, it's usually where there are natural dirt patches in your grass, but don't quote me on that).

One day I was chopping up some trees nearby the bamboo forest, however. A few days later, due to the natural spreading process of bamboo, I found a bamboo sprout growing in that very same dead spot. I think I also remember reading somewhere if you have too many trees/bamboo/bushes in one area, that this may also create dead spots that can be fixed by reducing the number of trees/bamboo/bushes you have in the area? Not sure, but this has been my experience. The only dead spot in my town that has done this.

I know there are dead spots sometimes if there are too many trees in an area. Also bushes and trees combined can't be longer than 12 in a row. You can plant trees and bushes at the same time, it doesn't matter what order you plant them in, as long as there aren't more than 12.

I had a forest area where I planted 12 trees. They all grew out. Then I decided I needed the whole thing moved over 1 space, so chopped them all down and moved them 1 space over. All of a sudden 1 of them didn't grow. I'm going to try to see if I can replant on that spot again once all the rest are fully grown, but I have a feeling it's just a dead spot. It's very annoying though, so I feel your pain.

You might know this already, but cedars only grow in the northern half of the town. IDK if that was the problem in this situation.
