...Why did this happen?

There are 6 bushes north and 2 bushes south, meaning this would have been a line of only 11 bushes. Why did these die?

There are some complex rules when it comes to bush starts. I think it is most commonly know that a chain of bushes/trees greater than 12 will always have one bush in the chain die.

However, there's also another bush/tree rule to abide by. In ANY 7x7 plot of land there can be no more than 15 bushes/trees. It looks as though there is probably some 7x7 plot in that area where bushes would not grow.

In this 7x7 yellow square I counted 14 bushes/trees though I'm not sure if there's any hiding under the time/date. If there isn't, then there's some 7x7 plot which has more than 15 bushes/trees.

Ah... wow, that's really Effing awful. I'll just have to destroy those two lower bushes and maybe plant another lemon tree in line with the one to the left to keep something of a pattern going. Freaking ACNL...
Thanks for the help. You didn't have to go through the trouble of creating a graph for me :) But thank you.

Oh, it was no problem at all - and thank you for the 10 TBT. I really appreciate it :)!

It indeed is really annoying though ><. I had the same troubles with my town (I was bordering my width-2 paths with bushes too) and it frustrated me how some would die. I was able to find a small work-around in some instances though. Sometimes it looks okay if you replace a spot intended for two bushes placed vertically with one tree placed on the lower spot. That way - the number of bushes/trees is reduced by 1 and when the tree is fully grown it kind of covers up the opening xD.

Also, I should mention that the 7x7 - 15 bush/tree rule has never failed for me in my town... however there may be some exceptions and/or stricter rules based on how the game naturally divides the town up into invisible acres but I haven't found anything to confirm or deny this. I wish you luck with planting though and hopefully you can find a solution =)!

Yup, I've implemented that tree trick about 20 times already in my town, haha. I don't think it'd garner a pleasing result in this instance, but none the less, I'll find a different set up. Again thanks :)

I have a few 7x7 plots in my town that has more than 15 bushes and/or trees. The most I have in one area are 20 (6x7). Maybe its an exeption though?
