Dating for fun?

You should start dating...

i think its acceptable to date for fun as long as the two parties know that they are just dating for fun and their relationship wont last. i even think that getting into a few relationships just for fun is alright because they let you ''practice'' and when you decide you finally wanna settle into a long term relationship, you will know what to do and how to understand your partner.

Well dating is supposed to be fun. The whole point of dating is to find out if someone is marriage/long term partnership material or not. Good luck "only dating someone you would marry" how would you know if you would marry them before you even start dating them like what

You're missing the point, the question is if it's okay to date knowing full well that you're going to break up with that person, and you have no intentions of actually being with them.

Personally I don't like that, it's not a date if there's no feelings in it imo, and it's kinda messed up, a date is something you do after you found out if you like them or not, it's a way to further developing a potential relationship, but it seems people (especially in the US) Have this idea that you can just go "date" strangers with full intentions of just throwing them out like yesterdays garbage, and then go date the next person, rinse and repeat, I'd never personally date anyone unless if I already know them, and have feelings for them, and are interested in making it a relationship.

Tbh, dating someone is just a way to further your relationship with someone and how well you know them - some people are just more comfortable doing this earlier than most, and if they dont like what they find they move on to the next.

Yeah, and I have no issues with that whatsoever, it's fine to come to the conclusion that it wouldn't work out, I just don't like it when people date without any intentions of actually trying, they call it a date, but they couldn't care less about the other person.

I think you're taking it as "dating" being a euphemism for having sex

You date someone to find out if you like them or not. Tbh I think you are the one missing the point, you can still date someone who you know you aren't gonna marry or spend your life with or whatever

what's the point of that? doesn't really sound like dating then

Do you open up your first date with questions about how the wedding is going to go?

Am I not supposed to?

No wonder it's not been going well...

Do you think it's showing them pictures of the wedding dress I would like them to wear that's too much, or is it when I tell them which school I've picked out for little Kit and Theo?

I voted for the 3rd option but I also agree with the 4th option for me personally. I honestly don't see the point in being in a relationship with someone you can't imagine a future with. Why waste your time with someone who doesn't see a future with you or vice versa? My end goal is to find a partner to spend and share the rest of my life with. I know some people have different expectations for dating and that's all fine and dandy, but it's just not my cup of tea.

I still don't get why people are saying they'll only date people they'd marry.

How are you going to know if you'd marry them without getting to know them better?

youre all in for a reality shock if u think u can tell if u might marry someone after one date, or you watch too many rom coms. it takes time and dedication to understand if u can develop a future with someone so date everyone just to be sure

yo when are u gonna date me then??

I'm using dating/relationships as an interchangeable term. A lot of people where I'm from say "____ and I are dating." But actually mean "____ and I are in a relationship." Sort of like when someone says "wanna go out with me?" they actually mean they want to be your boyfriend/girlfriend, and are not actually asking you to go out somewhere with them, usually they would say "want to go out with me on a date" if that was their intention.

Casual dating to get to know someone is different. That's a perfectly fine way to get to know someone a bit better, and can be harmless fun. I was more referring to a couple only being in a relationship "for fun" and having no intention of staying together long term. Basically being in a relationship for the sake of being in a relationship. I mean there's nothing wrong with it, but like I said before it's not my cup of tea. I'd only be in a relationship with someone who I can see a future with.

Dating isn't the only way to get to know someone. You could be friends for years with someone and know everything about their thoughts, feelings, dreams, ambitions, and then finally decide to start dating/being in a relationship with them with the intention of it being long term. There are many ways to get to know someone that isn't through romantic means. I think most people who voted for "you should only date people you would marry" took the term "dating" equivalent to "being in relationship", like how I did.

Thinking you will marry someone after just one date without ever meeting them beforehand is just plain silly. lol
