So I recently broke down and got the DL on my DS to help with filling my and my daughter's dreamie list. ( shhh don't tell her, she'll do the dreaded eye roll and sigh. )
I'll also use it to grow weeds, gather the snow series, fossils etc, things that I need for my theme town. Everyday I'll check turnip prices and if they're good I don't care if 100 people come and sell.
I chose the town because Robin was there and I desperately need her for my Spring in my seasons town. Guess who just moved in... Marshal. He's not on any of the list so I'll be doing a giveaway when he's in boxes.

Since I'm going to be open for turnips and have already broken the vow of autovoiding all villagers who aren't on my list should I start a cycling thread? I won't have much time to devote to it and it seems complicated, keeping track of who wants what villager, co-ordinating times. ( Seriously cyclers out there, you have my deepest respect because I don't think I could devote that much of myself. )

As well, how can I ensure that if I do decide to cycle and giveaway the dreamies they don't get sold? Any tips that a pro-cycler could give me would be appreciated. I want to give people that can't afford millions of bells a chance to own Marshal or Rosie, not give them away to someone that's looking at them as a walking ABM.

I'm not a pro-cycler at all but I usually don't sell villagers in my cycling town. I giveaway most and raffle or auction the popular ones.
I think you should start a cycling thread, once you get used to it it's easy. I hardly have time for my cycling town but I do post once in a while. Hope this helped, like I said, I'm not a pro-cycler at all.

I cycle really really slowly, as I don't have a ton of time either, but it seems to be okay. No one has mentioned being bothered by my slowness yet :) And I also don't auto-void, so props for that, too! One of the benefits of cycling slowly! But it can take multiple days sometimes for two people to coordinate adopting a villager. For this, I usually say whoever can adopt/let me pick up the fastest, just because having the game on hold for that long can really get complicated.

As for the money/selling issue, requiring "dreamies proof" - in which the buyer has to provide permanent proof that they want the villager, like pictures in their signature or links to places where they've been talking about it - basically, something more permanent than a quick text edit to show that they've been wanting this villager permanently.

Hope that helped!

Another couple of questions please. What time is the best to enter into the day in order to catch the most villagers out and about? How long do you stay on that day - is it based on the number of pings?

You could try speed cycling, it gets a random villager in boxes every 5-7 minutes. I can't run around anymore it's too slow!

I basically cycle and play the game, because I'm trying to make friends with all of the villagers. I usually play at 10, 1, 5, and 7, and more if I want to. If you're waiting for pings, it's usually a good idea to play every day until someone is moving, that way you don't accidentally lose anyone. However, once you know who's moving, you can skip around to their moving day.

And as Diamond said, there are much faster ways, if you wanted to just cycle. I just have other goals in mind, which is why I'm slow.

I as well. I'm growing weeds and building snowmen... LOL, but only in that town. I don't think I want to speed cycle. Until this morning I was just going to reset until I got villagers from my list.... and then Marshal moved in... how could I void him when so many people are looking for him?

Yeah, I know that feeling :) It seems like there's always someone out there waiting for that one specific villager - or in Marshals case, 5 million :)
