Hi friends, I’m sorry if this has already been asked and I missed it, but I can’t find an AC specific answer.

I have a regular switch and a downloaded copy of NH. If I get a new switch, will I be able to transfer my copy of the game along with the rest of my console data?

Thank u so much for help!

Even though NH doesn’t save to the cloud...?
I hope to be able to have all my island data intact too if possible, which is why I’m double checking (for this game specifically) rather than just transferring console data and other games. Thank you for responding!

Data is saved on the console and the transfer will transfer that data to the new switch.

Actually, unfortunately, there is currently no way to transfer your Animal Crossing: New Horizons save to a new Switch system. They mentioned in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct that they were working on a separate save data transfer specifically for New Horizons, but I haven't heard anything about it being available yet. I don't think they've said anything more about it, either.

New Horizons uses a system-wide save and there is no way to do a full system-wide system transfer, only individual user/save transfers, so it won't work. They need a separate tool, like how 3DS had a separate save data transfer tool you could use to transfer a save from a physical cart to a digital copy. I hope they can get something working like this for New Horizons soon! I too plan to buy a new Switch eventually.

From Nintendo of America customer support:
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/48899#s1q4

"Q: If I purchase a second system, can I transfer the save file (island data) to a different console?
A: Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not support the ability to transfer your save file from one Nintendo Switch system to another."

Nintendo confirmed a couple days before release that it can be transferred. The data is owned by the Island Rep. If you transfer that user's data, so goes the Island.

The data being owned by the island rep player is also confirmed in the game's settings via Tom Nook

They could have been wrong, or the link could be outdated.

Is this true? Do you know where you found this information? I've checked both Nintendo Co., Ltd. (NCL), the Japanese site, and Nintendo of America (NoA) and neither mention this. I've also checked the official Japanese Twitter account for Animal Crossing and don't see anything about this.

I don't have a second Switch, so I can't try this out. How do you check to see if the data is owned by the island rep? Do you mean when the settings on the startup screen?

I tried to double-check before posting and didn't see anything about this. Neither official webpage I checked has been updated; the Japanese one just says they're considering making a separate data transfer tool for New Horizons but don't know when it will be available. I really hope this is the case or they add something like this in! Thanks for the info!

First, while on the game's main menu, while logged into the Island Rep, Press "-" and talk to Tom Nook about the save settings. Or look here: https://streamable.com/epp8o

The thread with confirmation has probably been buried under over a thousand threads, and the search function is inoperational. Give me some time to find it.

User @KhalidPrecious has called Nintendo a few times to confirm and reconfirm.

The first time:
I just called Nintendo, they informed me the following...

"You will be able to play normally until your new Nintendo switch arrives, and then transfer your whole User, You cannot transfer save data alone."

Transferring save data alone: No can't be done
Transfering your profile: Yes the save comes with it
