Hey Everyone!

I'm Hetal, and I'm pretty new to The Bell Tree Forums. This is actually my first post! (I was looking for a good AC community to join, and it seems like we're really dying out on the web! At least TBTF seems to be pretty active!) Anyways, I have been playing City Folk for about 7 years now, and would really like to mix things up.

Don't get me wrong, I love City Folk, but after 7 years of basically following the same routine, you must see why I am looking for another game. Currently, I am looking into New Leaf, which seems to be the rave nowadays. I haven't been able to find any user opinions about the game, so if you would, please give me some insight!

Is it worth the buy? How much is it at different (USA) stores? Is the gameplay more stressful than the layed-back style of City Folk? What should I expect?

(I would also need to purchase the 3DS to go along with it, as I've had my DSi for quite some time. Is doing all this worth it for New Leaf?)

I'd say go for it ! New Leaf is great, highly addictive and I find it really relaxing :) I'm not from the USA so I can't help with prices, but overall I think the 3ds is worth it, there's many other games you can get as well as New Leaf. I think if you love City Folk and have been playing for 7 years you'll LOOOVE New Leaf ^o^ working as the mayor is a nice routine change from previous games :D

New Leaf is definitely worth it

It's $24.96 at Walmart, Amazon has it at $39.99, and it's $31.99 at GameStop. Walmart's the best deal I've found, shop around and you might find it cheaper (but I kind of doubt it because first party Nintendo games don't depreciate that much), price will depend on used copies

It's not stressful at all (unless you're one of those people who love to make heavily themed towns, then you might stress yourself out). I find New Leaf to be more enjoyable than City Folk because there's a lot more to do in New Leaf

Expect an updated version of City Folk, I guess. Better graphics, more activities, WiFi connectivity (since that was shut down for the DS and Wii last year), lots more customization options for your character and town

You will need a 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS or New 3DS XL to play New Leaf. It's absolutely worth it since there are a ton of great new games available. New Leaf will probably be the first of many games you'll want to get

Welcome to the forums! I'm biased but I definitely think it's worth it to buy - I loved Wild World and City Folk and was not disappointed by New Leaf! In fact I think I've spent more time on New Leaf than I did on the other two combined - had New Leaf for nearly two years now and still addicted to it! Don't find it stressful at all... there's more to do but it's easy enough to go at your own pace - I got my DS for Animal Crossing New Leaf and it's still the only game I really play on here... I regret nothing :D

I actually purchased my 3DS and AC:NL game when it first came out but didn't really start playing until last month. As a late comer, I would definitely recommend getting the game and console. There is also a spin-off of game called Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer which is set to come out in September in the US and I don't think a date has been set for the next full installment in the franchise is set which means you'll get in plenty of gameplay before a new one comes out :)

Welcome!!
If you enjoyed City Folk, you will LOVE New Leaf!!!

The cheapest way to start playing is buying a used Nintendo 2DS. Sometimes they are on sale for less than 99.00. A used copy varies, the cheapest new copies I've seen is around 24.95 - Like the other posts mentioned, Wal-Mart seems to be the cheapest this week.

Good luck on your new journey!

We're all here; be sure to ask questions!

One final tip: find a map you REALLY LOVE. Don't just settle because you are excited to start playing. When I started playing I had my first map for a day, then I hated it. That is totally ok! Resetting is normal.

Decide what kind of waterfall you like best- down at the bottom of the map or to the side. Look at the "Post Your Town Map" thread and some screenshots and see what feels good to you.

Most important: HAVE FUN!!

Definitely go for it! I didn't play City Folk, but New Leaf has soooo much customisation that it's going to be different. You can do so much more because your options are so much more versatile--refurbishment, pro designs, a host of maps, all kinds of things including the Big One of actually building your town up with PWPs. You can have whatever you like! I couldn't have done my Sherlock-theme town without New Leaf's new options.

It's also a lot of fun playing it with a community like this one. People are so friendly and helpful, and there's an active board for playing and finding friends to visit. It's super great. Especially when you consider the Train Station remodelling and the Dream Suite badge...

Overall, I recommend it if you love Animal Crossing and want your character to be more influential in the town than just running errands. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you get it, we're all happy to help here!

I think you should as well. I myself don't own the game yet. But just watching gameplay and knowing what you can do and how chill you can be, or on the other hand how much you can do too is what made it for me. I'm getting it for my birthday along with a new 3DS XL so I can enjoy Happy Home Designer to the fullest when that comes out too.

I really hope you get it. ^^
