Now I’m not saying I think this was a good design choice, in fact I think the ideal would be as follows: start with 6x6 room, get the option to upgrade to either 8x8 or 6x10 (obviously with the option to downgrade afterwards as well so you can change your mind) and perhaps the option to downgrade to 4x4 too? I saw a lot of people in New Leaf with really adorable tiny 4x4 laundry rooms or tiny sitting rooms and having to downgrade for them would make them seem more like a challenge/achievement rather than ‘this room is incomplete’ to anyone who visits.

Anyway back to my title, personally I’m loving it. xD I love the 6x6 size and I’m having the greatest fun designing a cozy garden, kitchen and study in them. Kinda selfishly for me it’s a bit of a relief that they don’t expand further, because in New Leaf it always made me feel like I wasn’t done until I had filled a big 8x8? Like, you can design the best 6x6 room in the world but someone else has a bigger and better 8x8 version. 😂 I eventually allowed myself to keep my basement 6x6 and cozy in New Leaf and I never completed my house.
Now I’m enjoying the fact that my house is complete and I have several sizes and shapes to decorate, I love my 8x8 main room, I like how the doors fill it a bit and make it seem a bit cosier as you can leave space for walkways!!! I also really love the new 6x10 size because it has the same ‘no huge middle space’ feel as the 6x6 but with more room. So now I have 3 cozy rooms, 2 spacious rooms and a roomy main room to show off, wonderful xD
I’m going to post my designs when I’ve completed the house!

Am I alone in this? Anyone else really like 6x6?

Honestly, I never really had an issue with the room size. It just felt so excessive to have every room be that big lol. I feel like the rooms are a lot cozier now and I have a lot more fun decorating them!

Yeah indeed I agree!!! Also I just realised something I hadn’t thought about since I only have one character...
Maybe they’re a bit smaller because you can have 8 fully upgraded houses on your island now? That’s... A lot of space

I actually quite like the small rooms too! I just wish we had the option to make at least one of them bigger, would love to have a master bedroom

I have one small room I would keep this way even if we could expand, but I wanted to put a café in one of my tourist information's side rooms, and the size just isn't enough. I wish we had the option to make rooms bigger without being mandatory for completion or access to some game features like in NL. (I kept my cozy bedroom and I wasn't really interested in HHA stuff/golden exteriors anyway, but it still bugged me.)

I like the small rooms. I had the worst time trying to fill some of them in NL. Bathroom? Ugh, that was horrible to try and do.

I like having cozy rooms that are still functional.

I like the room sizes too! I've seen people complain and I don't get it? I really like the rooms, I remember thinking the rooms were a bit too big sometimes in the older games so this feels perfect, you're able to make the rooms cosy now! and they still feel spacious
and if you want to create a specious room, there's always the upstairs and the basement!
the only room I don't love is the entrance room (middle room) it's awkward to decorate with all the doors/entrees

im a fan of the small room sizes too. i remember in NL i kinda regretted fully upgrading my house.

i do wish we had the option for one more 8x8 room because it's hard to decorate the main room with entrances on all walls

I like the room sizes too! I've seen people complain and I don't get it?
Well not everyone has the same tastes and most people prefer more space to work with. I for one don't like the lack of options and the fact NH forces you to add rooms if you pay off your loan (wish I knew before I got the left side room first), at least NL gave you the option to pick which rooms you wanted to add.

Different people can work best with different sizes. The issue is not having a choice. I want a small basement and a big main room.

I don't mind the varying room sizes so much now that I've decided what to do with each room. I used the smaller rooms for a bathroom and an office, which makes sense when you think about it. I like that my bedroom, kitchen, and living room areas are pretty large with the smaller rooms off to the side. No two rooms in a house IRL are the same size, and unless you live in a palace, rooms are smaller more often than not! It feels more realistic to me!

Yup I really like them, the best would be as you said to be able to upgrade and downsize at will. You want a small bathroom? There! Big bedroom? Upgrade it!

I wish we could upgrade to bigger sizes if we would like. I want a big master bedroom and a still smaller bathroom

I like the room sizes because it makes me use different designs for different rooms. I remember in new leaf with the rooms I just used a different furniture series for each room because I didn't know what else to do with them with their size. In new horizons I have a kitchen, bedroom and an office instead of just rooms that basically all have the same items just in a different furniture set. It's a nice change.

I don’t really mind the smaller sized or oddly shaped rooms myself! It actually helps with making themed rooms from my experience.

To be honest,I’d prefer having the choice to be able to upgrade the smaller rooms. Right now my basement and second floor are the only ones fully decorated - the smaller rooms are partially done but I’m still thinking of what to do with them.

Yeah I have no complaints. I actually like decorating the smaller rooms better. It feels so much cozier ❤️

Like some others have said I don't mind the different sized rooms (I actually just got my upstairs and it's cool that they have a non-square room in this game) but it would be cool to have a choice of how big each room is. I rly liked being able to keep certain rooms small in NL
