Hey guys. So today, I picked myself up the collector's edition of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and got myself thinking... What are some collector's edition games you guys have bought? What are some gimmicks that really made you want them? The only ones I got that I can remember are the LittleBigPlanet 2 one and this one... And I preordered the Uncharted 3 one. LittleBigPlanet had all the cool DLC (and the sackboy plush!) and the Assassin's Creed one had a ton of features, but my favorite is the assassin-in-the-box which is a jack-in-the-box with an assassin inside. Also, somewhat on the same topic, what are some cool preorder bonuses you've gotten? I preorder a lot of stuff, but my most recent one was the lightning hook on inFamous 2 which is great. So yeah, discuss away!

I bought the Epic Mickey Collector's Edition but that's about it. As for pre-order bonuses... None really. At least for ones that aren't digital. (ala Steam) Except I think Mario Galaxy?

None. Although, I am in posession of the Fable 2 collectors edition atm.

Metro 2033 limited edition, comes with some lovely pictures/automatic shotgun in game.
Halo Reach Heroic edition, the one with the book.
That's all I can remember of late.

a bunch of the pokemon figurines you get when pre-ordering. I also have the Jirachi Bonus Disc from when I pre-ordered Pokemon Colosseum.

I think Collector's Editions are a horrible concept. Release a normal version of a game, but also release a special version that has exclusive content that you can only get in that version, and if you miss out on it, tough ****? No thanks. There are some Collector's Editions that are okay, like the recent Australian Collector's Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D that comes with an ocarina, but the game itself is identical to all other versions, no exclusive content or anything. Pre-order bonuses, however, are nice, as long as it's not something like exclusive DLC that you can only get by pre-ordering. Luckily, the games that I like never have silly Collector's Editions with exclusive content, so I don't have to worry about it.

theres some rumors that skyward sword is going to be with a gold wiimote plus if you preorder or something.

That's not a rumor, it's true.

But it's not a pre-order bonus, all copies of the game come with it. (Unless they also sell a version without a gold Wii Remote Plus for a cheaper price, which is likely.)

Most of them come out as DLC after a month or so. The ones that don't are probably just cosmetic changes anyway.

Pre-ordered Scribblenauts and received the hat
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom Trading Cards
and got some free games for buying limited edition TF2 items.
I think that's about it.

Even if it's just cosmetic, it's still content that you can't get unless you got the collector's edition. Some games go even father than that, though, like Sonic Generations, which is having a WHOLE ZONE that's exclusive to a collector's edition only available by pre-ordering it at GameStop. That's just not right. I've actually been thinking about possibly getting a PS3 or 360 just for that game, but if I do, it probably won't be until after the game's already out, so I'll never be able to play that exclusive zone.

But the fact is, it's still cosmetic. It doesn't change your play style or the mechanics. If you're attributing your success in the game based on pixels, then you're doing it wrong. Also, if you want to shell out $300 for a pinball game, go right ahead.

As I said, cosmetic or not, it's still game content that you can't obtain any other way. For completionists like me, not being able to get all possible content in a game is a nightmare.

And I fail to see where you're getting $300 from. Unless you're counting the system itself, which I'd be buying for the game, not the exclusive pinball stage. And that's the first I've heard that you need to pre-order both versions of the game... Oh well. I probably won't end up getting it, anyway. I don't think it's worth the purchase of a new system that I'm only going to play Sonic games on. Might end up getting the PC version, but I'll have to set Boot Camp back up on my Mac because Sega only releases their games on Windows. >.>

I can only imagine what will happen to you if you started playing Team Fortress 2.
