Coincidence? I think NOT

This is really weird, but is there some type of geographical weather incorporated into your New Leaf game if you use the same date as real life? Because whatever the weather is where I live, is typically the same weather in my game. For example when it's raining here, it's raining in my game.

I always ignored it and thought it was a coincidence, because some time, 1 or 2 times, it would be raining in game when it was actually sunny here or vice versa.


But today where I live, we had our first snow day! It was snowing pretty heavy today. So I open up my town in New Leaf...and whaddya know, it's snowing for the first time there too. So I experienced first snow of the year in both real life, and in New leaf (excluding January/February of course...talking about pre-winter snow).

Is this really just a coincidence? Or does the game link with the 3DS Weather app (if there is one) to incorporate it into my game?

I've noticed some times when the weather matched up with real life weather and I used to think it was based on forecasts for my location, but now I really doubt this. I've had rainy days in my town when the weather was sunny and beautiful outside, or rainy days in real life when it was sunny in my town. Plus, if this were the case, people in locations where it doesn't snow wouldn't get any snow in their game at all.

I think it's a coincidence. I've had it rain in the game & in rl. But then it rains outside, and not in the game. It's really random.

I've always thought it got local weather readings too. It matches up a lot of the time for me.

usually it does catch local weather patterns, although if it's the start of winter in the game it snows and wether or not it's snowing where you live it will still snow in the game. the rest of the weather is random if you have bad wifi connection though

It's random. If it would be connected than players in the north would have snow all the time.

One of the first times it rained in the game, it was raining here. So of course I thought the same thing. But like everyone's saying, it's totally coincidental. It doesn't snow in most of California, so I'd never get a snow day in game.

I sometimes wish it were not random then I would have snow and rain all the time. That weather is the one of the things I love most in ACNL. Snow and rain are my faves.

I agree its coincidence... But I do know what you mean. More then once, when it was raining irl it was raining in my town, when it was cloudy in real life, and very overcast in my town, etc. I mean, the town mirrored the irl weather so often, I started noticing it and I am not a very good observational person, lol. So I dont know, I am not so dismissive of your idea.
