If you've had someone recently move out of your town, and they happen to be voided, there's always the possibility of someone else grabbing them up over wifi or street pass.

Now, my question is if there is any way to make this villager "move on" so to speak? Is there any way to clear your void so that no one will get that character accidentally?

Some people say that if someone that already has 10 villagers visits your town then the void is cleared, I don't know if it's proven though.

That seems logical. I was thinking that maybe that villager would remain in the void until another villager moved out who wasn't voided

I once had 10 villagers and let my friend visit while she had a villager in her void and I got the villager as soon as I moved someone out, so you're not safe even if your town is full.

I've heard that rumor a lot too, but it's always debunked as soon as someone says it. I really wouldn't count on it. :C This is the one thing I really really dislike in the game. I really hope the next AC game doesn't have this feature, cuz it sucks the fun out of wifi-ing with people.

That's really interesting! I've never heard if that happening. I guess then the only remedy is to visit the town of someone who has ten dreamies and dump your void there lol.

that seems like it'd work at first but I'm p sure if the villager doesn't move into that town they'll be able to move into any other town you visit later. it's all really complicated and I wish this and streetpass move-ins were not a thing bc while they add to the somewhat laid-back nature of the game and encourage u to just let things happen they only cause problems whoops

Can't clear the void, ever.
There was a thread on here a few days ago where the OP had someone pick up an old voided villager of hers from a town that no longer exists because she'd restarted since. Even after the game was reset there was still stuff in the void!
Seriously sooner or later I am going to put together a copypasta about this providing links to the numerous threads.

tl;dr You cannot clear the void by any means short of completely reformatting both the game and the 3DS.

Seriously? That's absolutely insane! I guess.
How about this: is the last villager to move out the only one in the void? In other words, is the last villager to move out the only villager that other players can pick up via wifi or streetpass? Or is it possible to pick up multiple villagers who have moved out previously?

I know I've seen threads about people who've had voided villagers show up in people's towns literally months later, well after other villagers have come and gone. I've no evidence for this but my gut feeling is that as long as the villager is within the 16-villager cycle, it should be expected to be available in your void (and perhaps selected at random to be passed to another player?). Once you've gone past 16 moveouts, the game seems to generally forget you ever knew that particular villager, so after that he should be gone for good.

The issue I have is the worry that I will accidentally give a voided villager to someone and then that person gets mad. I try my darndest to trade or giveaway every villager but sometimes they get voided. I have gotten other peoples voided villagers by mistake and to me it just happens, nothing to be upset about. But if someone is going to get mad at me, that is upsetting.

I can understand where you're coming from as it has happened to me as well. I went to someone's town to pick weeds and the next day, I had a random move-in in the most horrible spot imaginable. I got no warning beforehand from the host player either. I wasn't mad, because I knew it wouldn't be too big of a problem to move them out, but it was just a hassle that could have been avoided...

Found the thread with the villager that showed up from a deleted town: http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?189564-My-Streetpass-game-is-strong

I think it would be useful to spread this information around more. The standard wisdom seems to be "go to a town with ten villagers, it'll clear your void", which then leads people to get angry when they get a voided villager because they think it's avoidable.
It is not avoidable. I think the linked thread pretty much proves that!
The only way to be sure you won't get a voided villager is to have ten villagers in your town. That's it. If you don't want a surprise movein from the void, it's on you to take precautions, not the person you're connecting with, because they can do nothing about what's in their void.

That's what I figured... it makes me not want to streetpass anymore but at the same time, there's always that small chance that there might just be someone out there who has an awesome house with lots of nice things I can order...

I think it's easiest to just have 10 villagers at all times, and then when you want to move someone else in, you can quickly move someone out. Although that does make using the campsite impossible..and less convenient when getting new villagers, but it's just about the only way to go about it without avoiding wifi-ing or streetpassing

In theory, you CAN "clear" your void if every single villager in the void moves to another town. Also, cycling villagers out of the void doesn't make the game "forget" them, it makes them start to appear in main street and it becomes possible for the villager to move back in if you find them in another town or something. The game will still act like you knew them.

So if previous villagers appear in your Main Street, that means you can move them back in your town/they've been cycled out of the void?

Second bit's not true, unfortunately. See the thread I linked where a player had a villager picked up from the void despite the town having been reset subsequently. Even if they're not showing in your main street they may still be in your void.

I think you misread something. Being seen on Main Street means a villager has been cycled OUT of the void.
