So, I got a camper -- Clay. He seemed pretty cool, but I already had 10 villagers. I still talked to him, and he still prompted me to ask him to move in. I encouraged him, and he either said no or initiated a game which I lost. :<

Agent S is moving on the 25th, so maybe that's why it's being prompted? Or maybe the game is mocking how I can't have him by making him talk about moving here, then having him refuse my offers..?
So confused.

He's talked about possibly moving to Niumae about 8 times.

He's talked about moving 6 times since I made this thread, and refused to move all 6 times bakfadgaghgla

I'm pretty sure that even though Agent S is gonna move, you're still technically at 10 so you won't be able to recruit Clay. :c

Never mind, he finally gave in. ^^

But I'm still confused -- I already have 10 villagers (one leaving on the 25th -- campers take 2 days to move in, right?) yet he's still moving in -- how would this work?

He just said he'd move in now, I'm so confused.

Woah, that's weird. I've never heard of that happening. o:
Why don't you try TTing a bit to see what'll happen. o w o

Yeah, this is really weird. o.o

I don't wanna TT, because Agent S could move out before he moves in. I'll just wait and see what happens. ^^

The reason why he is moving in is because Agent S is moving out. It takes a few days for campers to move in, that's what I read from a source a few hours ago. Don't take me for my words though, I may be wrong. I'm trying to dig up the source now actually.

That makes sense -- thanks!

Oh and, according to Animal Crossing Wikia,

"If the villager that moved was the only animal in town to have a certain personality then another animal of the same personality will move in- this ensures that there is a balance of characters in the game."

So that might be another reason why Clay won't move in. Clay is a lazy hamster, and you must have one of every villager personality in your village (I don't know if this applies to Smug/Uchi characters because they can't be starters in a village; they have to move in overtime). So if Agent S is moving out and she is your only Peppy character in your town, another Peppy villager will move in to balance it out. This is why some dream towns are impossible; you can't have 10 lazy villagers in one town. Just thought I'd post this for more information~ ;p

TBH I still don't believe the maximum villagers you can have is 10. It's rumored to be 12. Maybe AC coded it like that but yknow it might be 12

Is it 12? I've never been able to get more then 10 into my town. That's also why when people have dream villagers, they put up to 10 because its not possible. I've yet to meet anyone with over 10 villagers, and when people finish their dream towns they only have 10 people listed because that is the max.

Some people say it is 12. I remember on Neoseeker this guy had said he saw a town with only 4 villagers. That would be impossible since you can't have a dream suite then spend like 5 days and only have 4 villagers. Maybe there's a cheat but I don't know.

That is impossible lol. You start with 5, and then more people move in/out. More people move in rather than move out, you can never get away from that 8-10 villager range unless you start a new game. Or maybe he was playing wild world, where it is possible (you start with 3 neighbours and it goes up to 8 if I recall correctly.)

It wasn't Wild World since they supplied a DC. I didn't visit it at the time nor do I remember where the post on Neoseeker is but it was 4 villagers.

The limit is absolutely 10. The minimum is 8 without using exploits (except for when you first start the game and are building up to 8, of course). One guy has a town with only one villager showing, but his map lists all of his villagers. I don't know how he did it, but it's a cheat. But, there is absolutely a 10-villager limit. Try to get someone to move in from the campsite if you have 10. You can't. Try to go to another town and adopt a villager when you have 10. They won't bring up moving to your town. If someone claims they have 12 villagers, they need to prove it with a dream address.
