So, I have largely finished a beautiful little game called Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. To avoid spoiling it for anyone who might be interested, I'll not say much about the story.
But the premise is this, every year for the last 100 years, a number has been painted on a large monolith across the sea on an alternate Belle Epoque style Paris, known as Lumieré. 100 years ago, an event known as The Fracture seperated Lumieré from the rest of the continent. An entity known only as The Paintress paints the next number, and anyone who is equal to that age 'Gommages' (French for erase). It is tradition for the Gommage for those who are to be Gommaged to wear flowers and gather at the docks with their loved ones to say goodbye.
We find ourselves in Monolith year 33, the number has just dropped from 34, and our main character, Gustave, is at the docks for the Gommage with his ex partner Sophie, his adopted sister Maelle, and the rest of Lumieré.
After the Gommage, groups known as Expeditions set out across the water to the Monolith to try and eradicate The Paintress and to stop any more Gommages. We find Gustave, and Maelle, as well as his friends Sciel and Lune and the other members of Expedition 33, as they cross and land on the shores of the Continent and set off to destroy The Paintress.
I cannot recommend this game enough, it is my favourite game ever, and I started playing late August and have got well over 70 hours in it. The game is beautiful, but heartbreaking, heartwarming, but tragic. If anyone else has played it and wants to nerd out about it, feel free to drop a message.
I can't share who my favourite character is without spoilers, but all I'll say is, 'mon amis', and 'wine' and if you know, you know!
There's a couple of screenshots below, this game is beautiful, please, go play it, it's on Xbox on Game Pass, on PS4/PS5 and on PC.
I also hope it's okay I share this, but I love the music from the game and I did a slight cover of Lumieré on TikTok,
For those who come after, please no spoilers below!
