what do you like better? the metropolitan urban charm of large cities like london, nyc, tokyo, and others. or do you prefer the traditional unique lifestyle of the country and rural areas?

- - - Post Merge - - -

i prefer the city because of the metropolitan and urban charm and there is so much more to do.

City, but I also like being away from the city for a short time (like a week)

Depends how you define 'rural.' I live in a smaller city (roughly 222,000 people), and here rural can mean a village of 100 people spanning over 500 km? or a town with a population of 1500 people.

I could never live in a city as large as New York, but I could never live in a place of 1500 people. I do prefer the city over farms and rural areas. I don't like the silence, I like the traffic noises. Plus, there is hardly enough to do in the city here, I can't imagine what it would be like to live somewhere smaller.

Something in between those metropoles and those empty villages. Around 40k citizens would be perfect for me.

Okay so, I like the country when it's like my uncle's land: 300 acres, three homes, ponds, mountains and forests. But I don't like "country" as in neighbors in the near vicinity

But then I LOVE New York's cities, there's so much to see and do. And the food is great

I equally like the atmosphere of both places but I think I have to pick cities because of all the cool stores you can go to

I like cities more than the country, but if anything I just really like suburb areas. I've always lived in suburban areas so they are more appealing to me. I live really close to Houston and I love the area, but I might go insane if I had to sit in it's traffic every single day. And I just feel really alone and wary in country areas. Cities are more for me.

The city because I live in New York. There ain't much you can do in the country but landscaping and swimming.

I've lived in a suburban setting my entire life, so I like something in between rural and urban. Cities are nice to visit but I could never live in one - they're far too crammed. On the other hand, I don't like being out in the middle of nowhere where there's only a couple people every few miles. Suburbs offer a nice balance, because you're still around plenty of people yet you still have privacy and plenty of space.

we can continue this poll but i just wanted to say that wow! i didn't expect that there would be so many City Lovers! City is winning with 100%!

I've lived around the same "city" my entire life and it only has about 100,000 people in it. It's the most bigoted place on earth, so whenever I'm done with college, my boyfriend and I are moving far, far away to an actual city where being gay is more normal and accepted. We go visit bigger cities sort of frequently, so I know I'll love it so much more than this "city". Especially leaving the south and moving to the north. Not only will the people be more tolerable, but the weather will be a lot nicer and I'll actually be able to wear my favorite article of clothing: cardigans and sweaters. c:

I've lived in the suburbs my whole life so both settings are very appealing to me. I love visiting and hanging out in cities when I can, but I think I'd prefer seeing what it's like to live in a rural setting, at least for a little while.

I have always lived in the country so that's my answer! I live in New York, and the cities, I agree, have many things you can partake in but I will always choose the peace over the bustling :)

The city can be nice sometimes, but I prefer the country. Wide open fields and spaces, everything isn't all packed together, less people. I live near Dallas so I kind of get a mixture of both city and country lol

I think Suburbs should be added.. Because I dont ccount it as the city, kind of outside. >< I use to live in some and haaated it. Limited sidewalks and had to ake a car to get anywhere. Bah.

I like the city. I like walking across the street to HEB and Gamestop. I like walking easily to the store or taking a half hour bus ride to the movies. :)
