Watching the Direct again, I noticed that the island name here is longer than just 8 characters:

In fact, the name "Nintenland" has 10 characters. Back in New Leaf, the character limit was 8, so maybe this is a hint that we can have a longer name for our town/island this time? At least I hope they not choose that name just for the Direct... What do you think?

Great find! I know others have wanted longer names, I hope this is true for their sake!

while my island name only requires 8 letters, i’m happy for those who wanted the character limit to be increased!

Hmmm, judging from the banner graphic... the character limit is most likely twelve.

YES I think we can safely say that there's a character extension from looking at that! The names I have in mind are under 9 characters but this is great news!

That's good, but the island name during dialogue was always Ninten? I hope it doesn't get cut off.

Yeah! I'm so happy about it! because the name I picked had 9 characters in it.

I'm going to..Tropicako island after all! I can't wait! <3

Thank you! The number of letters allowed was my main unanswered question after watching the Direct, and I think this is a good indication that we can have longer island names.
