Char (Protip: Cast from above the ocean waterfall)

I am trying to catch one, but I can't seem to find one...

How far from the waterfall do they spawn? Do they spawn in the entire waterfall basin, or just directly under it?

Also, which waterfall? The mountain one or the ocean one?

You can catch Char in either waterfall, and they are very close to it. They occasionally disappear into the waterfall while swimming upstream.

So glad someone asked. Just like salmon, is it where the waterfall drops down into river, or other end before it goes into the sea? I had no clue what mouth of waterfall meant.

I know that they spawn under it, not above it.

The problem with the ocean waterfall is that they frequently have Salmon spawning.

However, my mountain waterfall has too much space around it for it to be practical for fishing. My bobber can't reach it...

From my experience, chars and salmon only spawn by the sea waterfall. Chars will appear if you're on the cliff above, casting into the sea, whilst salmon will appear if you're on the beach, actually next to the pool.

Wow. That worked.

After spending 2 hours pressing save and continue and not getting a single char at the mountain waterfall, I cast from above the sea waterfall and caught one right away.

Yep. Casting from the sea waterfall pretty much guarantees one. (if it isn't salmon season, anyway)

I caught three in a row using that method. xD

Just wanted to add to this that I actually caught my salmon yesterday from the top of my beach waterfall.

I read where the char was available 4pm to 9pm and 4am to 9am. Not sure about that. I'm having trouble with the King Salmon. Same scenario but after so long a challenge can become frustration. I'll keep at it.

I've caught a salmon whilst fishing from the cliff. I also think the char I caught in June was under the inland waterfall.

I caught a char in the area above the waterfall yesterday. It was really confusing.

I have caught several chars, salmons & one king salmon from the top of the waterfall that flows into the ocean. Just cast your line out (so you can see futher) and look to see if there is any shadow or black spot just in the waterfall. If there isn't just walk away for awhile or walk around to get to the other side and try again.
