So, what's the best way to do that? How can you tell when a villager is "in boxes"?

So far, I've had some success with shunning - basically not talking to a villager for 7+ days, no matter what. I feel that's better than whacking them with my bug net, largely because I don't want to be judged by my other villagers for that.

Any tips/tricks? I had one of my villagers tell me they were worried *name redacted* was about to leave - is that then the time I should approach the shunned one to verify that they're going?

Thanks in advance!

If the one that is rumored about moving is the one you want gone, just ignore them, isabelle will tell you on start up that so and so is moving today they day they are in boxes. If you don't want them to leave, talk to them so they're more likely to 'ping' you, and when they tell you they are moving, just talk them out of it.

Thanks much! Any other advice except ignoring them? Does whacking them with a net or pushing them around help? Does doing that seem to hurt standing with other villagers? "Hey, our Mayor is a violent psychopath...watch out!"?

I don't think it will affect your standing with your other villagers, but it will affect the villager you hit or push. They will actually be less likely to move because they feel they "need to work on your friendship" before they go.

The best methods are either ignoring or befriending the villager you want to move. Different people have had success with both methods. I personally befriend them because that way they'll ping me, agree to leave, and I'll know exactly when their moving day is. But others swear by ignoring them, so I think it's really personal preference between the two.

I'm very interested in cycling out some villagers, and for the most part, I've been ignoring them. But it feels like it's not really working for me at all. I also heard that whacking them with your net doesn't actually affect their moving, or it does but very little. A lot of people seem to think that TT is also a very good way of doing this, but it does affect your standing with other villagers. Not to mention that since I'm on the Night Owl Ordinance, my hard work with the flower beds would go to waste.

I've never heard of befriending them as a technique though? I'd like to hear more about that. =)

Also, I realize I could just pull up all my flower beds before using TT. But that would be a pain and like I said, I worked hard on getting them the way they are. (A lot of trial and error, oof) I also don't want to change my ordinance right now.

Well, shunning does seem to work. I finally had a favored villager mention that one of the three I'm ignoring out was going to leave. The next time that villager wanted to talk to me, I did, and they told me they were heading out on the 27th. That one I wasn't ever mean to, even was on good terms with, but need their house moved, so they had to go. Alas.

Amiibo Cards

I have my favorites on amiibo cards and so I havein the past used whisp to tell villigers to leave and then once I get my favorites in , then I talk to them. There is little use to making friends with villigers that you are goint to kick out anyway.
