So I'm trying to get Benjamin's house to be all sloppy furniture items. I messed up really bad in his house prior to that and made him have bugs, mismatch items, and such. It was just a mess. But I've made progress and have nearly all the items in his house except the sink and closet. I probably will just sell the sink since it doesn't have a function anyways, but I want the closet in his house. Is there a way to make him definitely only replace the red dragonfly that's on the floor and not the other sloppy items?

If he asks to replace his dragonfly with something else, then yeah.

Aww, he's so stubborn about that one bug though. He's asked about the sloppy lamp, the dresser, the bee on his table, and even the other butterfly on his table, but he's never said anything about the dragonfly yet. Just the fact that it'll wander like him, which is cute and all but kinda frustrating :(
Oh well, I guess I just gotta wait patiently until he requests then? Hate waiting sometimes.

Either wait patiently until he asks or try your luck. How many items does he have that take up the same space? In my experience, when you send a villager an item, they'll replace something that is of the exact same size, or at least smaller if there's enough room. It's been less frequent for them to replace larger items.

He has 4 thing in his house that take up 1 space. The dresser, lamp, chair, and bug. That's what I'm scared of since there's so many options for his to replace instead of the bug. I'd rather not try my luck though since it took a lot of bells and looking for people who wanted to sell me the furniture items, I'd rather not go through it again lol.

There's a method I've started using recently that helps you control more what items get replaced, unless you mind resetting. I've started doing this to avoid making unorderable items disappear from villager houses when I'm re-decorating them. In it, you just mail out the items before the mail gets delivered and check if it's where you want them to be, then reset if not.

Here's a link to the thread that should be v helpful to you,
try to read through all the pages, as it's loaded with super useful tips from users who have been working on villagers' interiors:

Good luck with your mission! C:

Thank you so much. I love to try to stuff furniture into my villagers homes, but I've never tried resetting to get it into the right place. I think resetting works in a lot of places that I never think of using it.

Oh cool! Thank you Maruchan for the link! I'll definitely try these methods out :)
@Laser Beams: thank you! I'll definitely need to try that out tomorrow then. Hopefully it'll work!

I have been trying this method recently though where whenever benjamin is inside re-tail, I'd save then make him buy the closet and then go Main Street to reset whether or not villagers are in their house, Benjamin usually is in his house by this time which is really convenience. Then if the closet's not in the right spot, I'd reset and try it again. So far he's replaced the chair and lamp with the closet 12 times now.
I did this method with the sofa and it worked really when when I didnt want him to replace the bed, but I think he's really attached to that dragonfly. It's so weird lol, but it's okay. Patience is key I guess.

I find that if a villager invites you over and you talk to them a few times, they'll ask if anything they own has caught your eye and if you say yes then you can try to buy whatever it is you want to replace. Assuming his red dragonfly isn't on a table you can probably buy it from him. If you mail or sell him furniture after that it should go into the newly freed up space rather than replace something that's already there. This method relies on him inviting you over and you have to be quick to give him the new furniture so he doesn't find another replacement but I've redecorated villagers homes this way before and it works well for me.

That's the problem though. I've been to his house plenty of times over the past few days and have even TT'd to get him to invite me over again and again and it hasn't worked. He's really attached to that butterfly and calls it his best friend, so that method definitely doesn't work. Inanimate objects sure, but when it comes to live bugs and fish, they usually don't get rid of that as easily for some reason, for me at least.

Villagers love their bugs and fish. They are their pets and they will never sell them to you or put the in Re-Tail. Occasionally they ask you to get them an item to replace it, but it's rare. -_-

I made a similar thread to this here, and Chibi.Hoshi gave me some great advice which I'll share with you ~
1. Set the time a few mins before 5pm
2. Open the game, Benjamin must be in his house. If not, reload the game till he is.
3. Send him the item you want him to put in his house in a letter
4. After it becomes 5pm, visit his house. If the item is not where you want it or doesn't replace the bug reset and do it again.

It works pretty well and I'd definitely recommend trying it. Good luck ^^

(Also, sorry if someone else already recommended this method. I did not read all of the replies)

Thank you Dewy! Laser Beams did suggest something similar but having a step by step guide is always great too :D I'll definitely try this method to see if he'll replace the bug. He's so stubborn, but I think I'll get rid of it eventually lol
Honestly I should have probably never given it to him, but whenever I don't he's always so sad looking, it makes me want to give him what he wants, but oh well. Live and learn!

I was reading my post again and was going to correct it and explain it better because I realised it sounded so confusing, but I'm glad someone already did it. Sorry that my post was so unclear, I was tired and distracted when I typed that.
