I heard that guiding them to the net is a good method, but I haven't encountered a fast critter yet (at least I don't think I have). I might try out that friend method another time, my friend and I usually compete to get them

I catch the fast creatures by swimming above them before diving. Not the fast swim that you do by tapping the A button...but, the slow swim that you do if you just hold the stick. Sure...it takes a while...but, it's easier than chasing them all the way to the net. Unfortunately, you still can't dive directly down onto them with this method...but you can get close enough that you can immediately start tapping A underwater and catch them in a few strides.
So you're basically hunting like how dolphins or orcas do.
Also, I don't like helping friends, I enjoy their suffering when they can't catch the red king crab. Rip.

If it was an option in game I'd bit e. I think old fish would still be faster.
