Catching bugs for villagers question

As far as I'm aware, if they approach you to buy something that's already in your pockets then they do display it. But if they ask you to catch something for them as a favour then they don't.

It was during the first month of the game, but I think I recall one of my villagers displaying a squid after they requested it. I actually had one in my storage, so I just went and got it from there instead of catching a new one. The villager was in a starter house, not sure if that factors in since those houses seem to have more open spaces for displayable objects.

This fits with my Pashmina having 3 Warf Roaches. She was a starter home. I wonder if theres a pattern.

Would anyone be willing to check their starters and see if I'm crazy?
