Cartridge and eShop Download on same 3DS?

I apologize for being a noob to the 3DS world

I have one physical ACNL game cartridge and one 2DS.

I don't want to buy another 3DS/2DS so...

Could i get another town by buying the game again in the eShop? Would this corrupt me current town on the physical copy?

You can have a physical and digital. I did before I had a 3ds and 3dsXL
I never had a problem with it.

It wouldn't affect your cartridge game, as the saves are kept separately.

So yeah, it's possible.

Yep! To clarify, you can have one digital copy for any given system and as many cartridge copies as you want. You can have one digital and 100 cartridge towns if you wish. The only thing you can't have is multiple digital copies because they save to the SD card and the system itself. You're prohibited from doing so, and if you try to mess around with the SD cards and copy info over, you'll end up with a corrupted town.

An online friend could help if you need to move items between your towns.
I used my sons 3DS before getting a 2nd one.

Another question, if I can add that here - if I have a digital and physical copy on the same 3DS, which town will get the Streetpasses? How is that determined?

The game that gets opened the first gets the streetpass. So be careful
