Can your villager move back?

So I was wondering this question when I accidentally TTed to Elvis's moving day. Can he move back? I let my friend take him instead of letting him go into the void and I know you have to go through the 16(?) villager cycle before you can get that villager again but does that mean I can get my old Elvis back or do I have to get a completely new one?

Yes, you can get your old Elvis back since he is moving into your friend's town. Your friend will just have to hold him until you cycle out 16 more villagers and then you can adopt him back from them.
