Can you move out of your town?

So, I heard that if you create another character to the town and pay off the first loan, you could move out. What does happen if you move out? Does your mayors town disappear or what? Im kind of confused, and I would like to know what happens if you do so.

Your mayor/town won’t disappear, only the character you move out will. That character you move out will become a mayor and no longer will be an alt character. Also whatever funds and possessions they have on them will be transferred too.
