Can you move an existing player character to another town?

I'm very tempted to get another animal crossing for more decorating space. However I'd like one of my player villagers in my current town to become the mayor of the new village. I know you can move player villagers to other towns but I don't know if they can become mayors themselves.

Is it possible? Did that make sense?

Yes the moved character becomes the mayor of the new town.

Never done so I don't know the details but I would guess its in the ac manual or follow the instructions Isabelle will give at the front screen.
I presume it would have to be a new town in a 2nd 3ds?

Unless you go through the whole thing every time I would guess you are going to be stuck layout wise with the initial 4 choices offered by Rover.
Its not going to be as easy as if you are resetting with a totally new character in a new town. (ie keep resetting until you get a layout you like).

Personally I would not move a character over. I would start the new town with a new character, can always make them look the same as the one in your original town.

If you have 2 towns in two separate 3ds then you can catalog any items that you need in the new town. - ie you can visit one another, have different native fruit etc.

I did that, and yes, the character you move becomes the mayor of your new town as long as there isn't already another mayor :3

Ah okay, that's good to know! It's true I might not be able to reset though for a good map, I'll just have to hope I'll get lucky first time! Thank you both for replying!

You can still reset all you like for a good map. I've moved an existing character to be the mayor of a new town so it can be done.
