Can villagers wear dresses? Or just shirts?

Hi,
I'm wondering if villagers can wear dress designs that I make or from QR codes,
or can they just wear the shirts? If so, can they wear all types of sleeves?
For now all my villagers seem to be wearing short sleeve shirts.

Either way, they don't have pants, so it's the same thing (Kinda). I think they only wear articles of clothing that are in shirt-form though. I've never seen a villager with anything other than a sleeveless shirt/dress.

Yes that was my question, as in can they wear designs that are in dress form.
Oh you mean they can?t wear long sleeves?

I don't really understand my last post either whoops. They can wear any kind of shirt, but the sleeves won't show when they do.

(Edited post because I don't know what's wrong with me today): Any kind of shirt actually. If it's a long-sleeved shirt, then the sleeves just wont show up when they wear it.

Yes they can wear dresses with all types of sleeves. But when they wear it, it will appear as a tank top.
Roscoe was wearing my tube dress design when he left my town.

Oh and I forgot to mention that the dresses must be designed.
It can't be a dress bought from Able's.

They can only wear shirts. Dresses can only be worn by humans, and if you have a custom design shirt, they can wear it but they'll take off the sleeves.

say you put up a dress in ables, you can wear it normally but villagers can only wear the top half since they are too small.

im almost sure that they can wear them since i put up a pro design i made about a week ago and maple decided to wear it [it was a swimsuit dress, so unfortunate ;;]
