Can villagers steal your flowers?

Like the title says, can villagers take your flowers?

I was down on my beach today, watering my hybrids, and I noticed a purple rose was missing right in the front of that patch. Then, later I logged on my alt and noticed a white cosmos missing from right in front of his house.

I NEVER run in my town, so I know I didn't accidentally trample them. I have accidentally dug up flowers when planting fertilizer, but if I did that I'd have noticed immediately and I've only been fertilizing my special red roses for ages to try and get blue roses.

I have Beautiful Town Ordinance and have had it for months, so I know the flowers didn't wilt. Nobody has been to visit my town. Nobody has access to my 3DS except my husband and he definitely didn't do anything with my game.

So, the only thing I can think of is that a villager picked them up. Is that possible?

As far as I know game sometimes get buggy when a villager wants to plant a flower in the same spot of another flower. But that never happened to me, just telling what I've heard. If there's some other flower in place of your old flowers, that might be the case. Other than that, I'm pretty sure villagers can't take flowers

No, they will never steal your flowers. They just love to plant non hybrids near your hybrids. The only thing i can think is happening is maybe your game is bugged?? Your hybrids shouldn't be going missing... That's very strange indeed. Hope you get to the bottom of it tho!

As far as I know they cannot take or destroy your flowers, but they can plant new flowers.

Most logical explaination for me is a bug or a glitch.

I experienced this before when A LOT of squares in my town were occupied. Basically I find when 90%+ of my town is occupied with flowers, designs, pwp, etc .... flowers will disappear. This is because you need empty spots for many game mechanics, like fossils, gyroids, burying capsules, I'm basically thinking this is why it happens.

The villagers are not taking the flowers, they're just disappearing completely from the game. If you use a pattern path or otherwise use a ton of patterns, I suggest lifting some if possible. I found using natural paths made it so only rarely plants disappeared

It's funny that you posted this Destani, I have experienced something similar. I am still unsure if the game did it or someone stole them since they were both in very hidden locations in my town (which makes me think the latter). Your instances appear to occur in more obvious places which makes me think it is a bug, but mine could be a bug as well. I guess this something we and many others need to look into. Just out of curiosity, do you have an original launch copy of New Leaf that got updated or are you using a Welcome Amiibo cartridge?

I don’t think villagers steal flowers. Perhaps someone you invited into town took them.

Just out of curiosity, do you have an original launch copy of New Leaf that got updated or are you using a Welcome Amiibo cartridge?

I have an original New Leaf copy that has been updated for Welcome Amiibo. I've been playing for almost a year now and this is the first time this has happened. Hopefully, it was just a one-time glitch or bug. I was moving some flowers around the previous night, but I know I didn't misplace them. I'm very OCD and know exactly where everything is.

I'm glad to hear that it's not my villagers taking them, though. These flowers were easily replaced, but I have some hybrids that I'm still working on and if they disappeared, I'd probably be pretty upset.

To Warrior's point, I have amassed quite a bunch of flowers and need to clean up some of the ones I don't plan on using. That might help.

OMG this literally just happened to me! Some orange cosmos vanished from in front of my train station.
