Can someone tell me what Zelda is about?

In all my years of gaming(I started at age 3)I have never bought a Zelda game and I was thinking on getting it for the wii.So can somebody give me a little info on it.

i had never bought a zelda game until my first year of high school,
my friend let me borrow wind waker, and BANG i was hooked i now own practically all of them some way or another.
Cannot wait for LoZ TP!!
