I think you can only get the furniture from other towns if you help pick weeds.

Oh..I saw other threads saying all they had to do was come over....

Guess I'll just buy it from someone..

Yeah, you need to go to their town and pick at least 30 weeds (clovers do not count as weeds in this game). I've seen a bunch of threads offering to let people come pick, so you should check those out. Good luck!
