Can I buy turnips in another town?

I searched and could not find this question answered, so I apologize if it has been.

I time travel (making up for a time period I didn't play), so I can't buy turnips in my town. However, can I travel to another town to purchase turnips from Joan? My plan is to watch prices in my town, then when prices are high at Retail, travel to my weeding town (which I will have set to Sunday), and buy turnips from Joan there. But I'm not sure if I can do that. Anybody know?
