Can hacked items corrupt your data, if obtained?

I know that if you pick up a mannequin it corrupts your data because the item can't be dropped, therefore obtaining it by picking it up messes up your game.

I was wondering if other hacked items could do the same?

I just want to be careful while trading on the island.

from what i've heard, only the mannequins and mystery bag can corrupt your data, but always be careful just the same!

I've gotten a hacked mystery bag and my game worked a-okay ^_^
But do be on the lookout- be safe and only pick up what you'd REALLY want if you think it's hacked. Or be even more careful, and leave if you suspect a hacker ^_^

be careful when picking up wrapped items from hackers. if you happen to bring one home, unwrap it and it’s a scavenger hunt list, you’re doomed. it will never leave your inventory without the use of hacks.

wait, the mystery bag? you mean the one you get if you don’t deliver all the presents on Toy Day? it’s completely safe.

any hacked item that can be taken out of your game without hacks is safe.

the wetsuit is safe, but if you wear it and go to the island you won’t be able to bring it back home.

ah, that won't be a problem, I was just curious because I've obtained all the other wet-suits, its annoying you can't obtain the rental suit legit. I wanted to display them all in my house. I wonder if it can be placed down as an object like the other suits :S

the hacked rental wetsuit works the same as the others. you can wear it, display it, and drop it. i dunno if you can sell it or recycle it.

ah thank you I didn't want to loose my 5 year old town to corruption. But I also really want to finish the collection

A while ago, somewhere else, a funny person was trolling a hacker with a giveaway town. He kept asking for 100 maid dresses when the giveaway guy was preparing for a thing. After a few times, the hacker let it slip that he could "insert a flag" that would make the item unable to leave the pockets. Recent things lead me to believe this is still a thing.

I'd like to know if I'm safe from edited flags if I get an event item directly from Isabelle, Leif and such.

Don't pick up a petition form if you see one on the ground! I don't remember if one in a dream town will affect your game, but if you are in someone's town IRL you can never dispose of the petition form.

At least, that's how it used to be. I assume it still is--better safe than sorry!
