Can cedar trees make special stumps?

I've been trying forever to make special cedar stumps around my bonfire PWP, but it hasn't been working. Can only regular trees make special stumps? I've been chopping the cedars down with a golden axe to increase my chances.

Yes, they can. If you want a guaranteed special stump, you should chop it down with a silver axe. It will yield a special stump 100% of the time.

Here are the patterns a cedar tree stump can make:

Animal Crossing logo (leaf)
Cat face
Clover (very rare)
Flower
Musical Note (very rare)
Star

A silver axe from the island makes a special stump every time FYI. Usually some being sold on the Bell tree marketplace subforum for TBT bells.

Yeah the silver one for guaranteed stumps. You could wait for one to appear on the island, but it would be really quick to just make a post in TBT marketplace. I reckon you'd get one fairly fast that way.

One tip to make your silver axe last longer (since it does break) is to use the golden axe for the first two hits and then switch to the silver axe for the last hit. You will still get a special stump but your silver axe lasts 3x longer!

My dream address has all of the special tree stumps. Near my campsite/fire pit is a row of Cedar's and near the ginormous American flag made from flowers is a row of regular sapling stumps.

Also, I may add: I hit the trees and if it was a stump I didn't have, I saved. If I already had it, I quit and tried again until I got what I wanted.

How do you quit? A good way is to open your gate using local wireless, and if it's not a stump you want, disconnect and try again.
