Anyone know for certain whether or not this is a valid spot for a villager house? So far I'm having no luck, but I swear I've had animals 1 tile diagonally from a river before. Spot marked by brown check pattern.
That should be plenty of space for a villager to plot. Aside from the one in the photo, are there any other houses or buildings nearby? I've heard too many in the same 'acre' can prevent more from moving in that general area. Or maybe there are other 3 x 3 spaces you might have missed?
It looks too close to the river to me. I don’t think it’s considered an entire space away since the tile is floating a bit. I hope I’m wrong and it works out for you, though.
Gotta agree with Moon, the river seems too close. I did plotting last year and it was such a pain. I'll have to boot up my game when I get home cause I do have a villager super close to the river. It was as close as I could get them. So I'll see how far they are with tiles. I don't think it's one tile against the river, which is happening here.
You might want to have another space open just in case.

I retract my statement. This question was bothering me so I decided to see if I could place Phoebe's in a spot by the river like Bubblebeam's picture. It didn't work. Phoebe ended up on a spot that looks once had QR codes. Whether they were the Pro kind, I don't know since I scanned them years ago.
I'm pretty sure a villager can move there. just make sure every other open area is blocked with patterns, it should force them into the spot if there's no other options for them. if that spot really can't hold a villager though and everything else is blocked off then I think they'll start moving over any patterns you've put down just so they can move in.
The space on the left side (diagonally) near the front door that's close to the river is kind of suspect, but if it's possible to dig a hole on there, it might work.
I gave it a good go, but that home just wasn't going to plot there.
Similar problem now. I want my next animal to plot one square above where the previous home was, but again it's just refusing to. This spot isn't near any water or rocks. The closest thing to it is the bus shelter and that's a good 4 tiles back. Will post pics later.
