Is the space in front of the house not enough? I've got other houses plotted exactly like this. Could it maybe be the curve of the river?

Hard to tell, it may work, but I'm not sure, the space in front of the house and also on the right side where
the river is looks very small.

No, there's not enough space on the bottom side. Two patterns (not one) should be able to fit on the bottom side before touching the river area.

I'd say move the whole thing one space up, but you already have a villager too near.

No. I believe they need two spaces in every direction.

Two spaces in front (near a river or cliff) and on the sides then three spaces in between houses vertically.
