How often do random villagers visit campsites? Like is there a specific way to get more random villagers to come through or is it only when you have a villager moving out? How does it work?
It's all random, some weeks you might not get any campers and then you might get campers for days in a row. c:
You can start a new character instead of using your mayor to get someone in the campsite. Just click new save file and if nobody is camping reset until you get someone.
They are all random.
As of now in my second town, I seem to be getting more campers (maybe 4-5 of them). Keep in note that I was TT'ing as well.
There is one method, but I guarantee that the camper will be someone that you don't want.
Change the setting to the next day on 5:59AM, save and quit. (Or if you start a New Save File on a day when you didn't load up New Leaf with an existing character). Then create New Save File, go through Rover's process, run up to your campsite and see if there is a tent/igloo. If there isn't, exit without saving and try again. If you do find a camper, go in and see who it is. If it's someone you don't want, exit without saving. If it's someone that you want, go through the process of setting up a house (you can delete this later). After Isabelle automatically saves the game for you, then you can save and quit. You can now delete this New Save File character, and go onto your Mayor character (or any other character that's been created) and convince them to stay in your town.
However, the ratio/chance of encountering a camper changes everyday. Some days will be better, some will be worse.
I used this method twice, and I got Tangy and Lucky. They weren't Dreamies for me, but I took them in so I could give her and him to someone on the forums that are their Dreamies
You need to make a new villager to do it, though. c: It won't work unless your new villager was created that day when you search for the campsite.
And no, visiting other towns does nothing to help it. omo
It's random. I've read in campsite reset posts that there are some days when the odds of getting a camper are higher. You can always start the game as a new character (not an existing second character, a new one that goes through the train sequence with Rover) and quit without saving if you don't have a camper or don't like the one you've got. If you're looking for a specific villager, that's a lot of resetting (unless you're very lucky) because there's over 300 possible villagers. I'd recommend campsite resetting only if you really want a new villager but aren't picky about which one you might get.
