I live in the north valley so the fires haven't directly affected much here, but the aftereffects sure are noticeable for everyone.
Almost ALL schools closed down (all elementary to high schools are closed, and most colleges) in the middle of last week, and they're still closed for this entire week as well. And they're closed because there's so much smoke here and being outside for long periods of time is dangerous. Last week it genuinely looked like we had fog everywhere, but it was smoke. They haven't said this, but I'm pretty sure that they've also closed so that people who were living near the fire can recover (at least I hope that that's also a reason).
Thankfully we got some rain this morning, and quite a lot of it (at least by our standards which isn't much, yay droughts). So that should help put out the fires, and clear the smoke out as well.
No, the huge northern fire is named the Camp Fire, after the street it started near. The name was an awful choice and has nothing to do with campfires or camping at all.
